On Monday I was in a courthouse to do some research for a couple of jobs.?ÿ Access has been very restricted for the past several weeks, so this was a very good thing.?ÿ While there a visit was made to one of the Men's Rooms where I discovered a new paper towel dispenser had been installed.?ÿ It is one of those where if you wave your hand just so and say a prayer you may receive your portion of paper.?ÿ The result was maybe a three-inch section of paper.?ÿ Rip it off, do the magic hand wave and get the next three-inch portion.?ÿ Multiple such actions are needed to get something big enough to begin to dry one's hands properly.?ÿ?ÿ
As I headed to the Register of Deeds Office I looked into another Men's Room and discovered the new dispenser there provided the same inadequate service.?ÿ A few minutes later I was describing this atrocity with a couple of female county workers.?ÿ They spread their hands about 15 inches apart and reported that was the quantity that the new dispenser in the Ladies Room provided.?ÿ So, I repeated my complaint and held my thumb and pointer finger about three inches apart and said, "That's all the men are provided."?ÿ The one lady looked at me with a deadpan face and said while mimicking my gesture, "I've been told for years that much is a foot, at least."?ÿ
It's a simple calculation, really:
My wife offered to help me survey a friends yard one time.
They were wanting to do some grading due to a low spot. I offered my services so myself and my youngest son could use one of the new survey instruments we had just gotten for a little test run and because I find our industry to be quite fun and enjoyable most days.
Anyway, long story longer...
Upon reaching the site I suggested we collect shots about every 5 feet to get a good lay of the land. My wife offered to help and I said of course BUT (holding my thumb and index finger about 3 inches apart I said) I'm sorry to say but this is NOT 8 inches in this case.
