I think there was a message that his computer was fried, so it may be some time before he gets back onboard.

Hannah is home. We went to the doc today. Doc said it looked good. The person making the bandage said it looked great, being a week old. (she has seen other snake bites)

They want us back in a week.

I think it is nearly a waste of time. Little Rock Childrens Hospital is 200 miles, round trip. In this heat, I'd druther not do that.

Thank all of you for your kind thoughts, and prayers.

Hannah is still not as strong as normal yet... she gets weak if she is on her feet too much, but, she has alot of drive.

The bite was to her left index finger. It is still swollen, and has some dark spots. But, nearly no pain.

When is this heat giving it up?

Hannah still tries to practice piano.

Thank you for the update, Nate!! I had hundreds of people praying for her!! I am SO GLAD it is turning out OK and shes on the mend!! Don't blame you about driving to Little Rock in the heat. Looks like a great hospital, though!! (I watch 19 Kids and Counting...)

Nate,

Good to hear things are going in the right direction! Suppose you truck was air conditioned by opening the windows....that heat alone would over 200 miles knock the stuffing out of one little miss.

Good news Nate

It sure is scary when one of our children is in danger. You take care of Hannah and the rest of your family. And especially take care of yourself, you can't take care of them if you're down.

Good news Nate

Thanks everybody. I am so tired, I want to sleep extra in this heat. This spring, we went from heaters, straight to AC. I hope we don't do that again... straight from AC to heaters!

Thanks again. We are so thankfull for your kind thoughts, and prayers.

Good news Nate

So I take it the snake did not inject venom...it was just a defensive bite that contained some venom?

How scary. Kill them snakes when you see them!!

No, I think it did inject. Hannah thinks so too. Instant incredible pain, for an hour or more.
All the arkansas venomous snakes are considered "Pit Vipers". Their venom is close to the same, so they use the same anti venom.
Deaths due to pit viper bites are rare. Usually just a bit of mangled hand, or skin near the bite. Not exactly fun, but usually not deadly. (even without medical attention)

Nate,, thanks for the reply. been thinking of you and yours. living around dangerous critters can make you feel invincible. yeah, if you don't have ac in the truck, I'd ask if it could wait a few days or so too. Funny, we've seen all your kids growing up for years now, just hate to think of any of them getting hurt. Peace.

Good news Nate

What first aid did you administer? It sounds like either it was a dry bite or she received the right treatment (for her) rather quickly.

One of our local guys at the tender age of 58 got bit by a ground rattler, almost lost his right hand due to ignoring it for a few days. Recently he laid open his leg with a machete, taped it up with flagging and a sock, then finished the job. 17 stitches later, he wins my 'Dumba$$ of the Month' award. Did I mention he is now 63? Can't tell those Vietnam vets a thing about personal protection.
