In my younger years I was convinced colonists fled to the New World to escape the silly, starchy and yawn-inspiring British aristocratic protocol.?ÿ Viewing short glimpses of the hoe-down at Windsor this morning?ÿseemed to lend credence to that theory.

But as an aging and somewhat boring romantic I have to admit there is a place for tradition in this world.?ÿ We have our traditions on this side of the pond too.?ÿ One time honored American tradition that comes to mind is the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C.?ÿ It too is full of full uniformed dress with lengthy somber pomp and circumstance.?ÿ I guess I'll give "tradition" a slight thumbs up.

And, if nothing else, it gave Buckingham Palace a good reason to get all their?ÿRolls Royces out of mothballs, change the oil in them and drive them about a bit. ??ÿ

Yes tradition is good.

It would have horrified them though to witness the pomp and circumstance that were part of the Redneck Games in Dublin..........Dublin, Georgia.

They had Bobbing for Pigs Feet, mud wrestling, wife carrying, belly flop contests, watermelon seed spitting, cow chip throwing, and several different eating events, and I think they had belching contests.

The bride was very pretty though.?ÿ

ƒ??Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead. Tradition refuses to submit to the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about.ƒ?
ƒ?? G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

Besides, the current occupants of Buckingham Palace are third rate German usurpers to the rightful Stuart throne. ?ÿ

I guess that's why British subjects seem to cheer and applaud the young wee additions to the royal lineage.?ÿ It would be a disaster to lose the crown to some?ÿunscrupulous?ÿbastard snake oil salesman or real estate developer?ÿfrom left-field like a, say, Scot immigrant descent (with a mail-order bride from Slovakistan).?ÿ Can you imagine Winsor Castle retrofitted as a lavish hotel and golf course?...with 10 feet (oops, 3 metre) tall letters proclaiming the name of the new king's "brand"?

perish the thought...

Down this way, the Padre's speech is getting a lot of attention.

You've got to get up pretty early in the morning to fool Ol' Paden.

I saw a clip on the tv of the Duke & Duchess of Sussex leaving the grounds this afternoon in a beautiful 1968 Jaguar E-coupe.?ÿ Being a fan of British mechanical junk I thought the Duke had made a wise choice.?ÿ I thought maybe it probably belonged to his dear old dad, the Prince of Wales. As they?ÿdrove off I noticed the Jag was left-hand steer...odd for a Jag on the grounds of Windsor Castle.?ÿ

It was then I smelled a rat.?ÿ The Jag took off and there was no sign of smoke.?ÿ Any fan of British mechanics know the standard downdraft "SU" Jag carburetor incorporates ?ÿa small oil reservoir to lubricate the throttle slide piston.?ÿ This gives all Jags with SU carbs their signature slight puff of blue smoke as they accelerate.?ÿ I saw no smoke.?ÿ I passed it off on my poor eyesight or possible even a talented Official Royal Carburetor Adjustor from the Queen's own staff.

But then I later read the Jag was NOT a 1968 E-coupe...but a new made 300 hp electric replica known as the "Concept Zero"?ÿ?ÿbuilt by the Jaguar folks.?ÿ I guess they don't make a right-hand steer version...or the Duke & Duchess ARE really planning on living in Malibu.

Lets just hope the electrics aren't still made by Lucas. ??ÿ

I saw that too, as a still photo, and my immediate thought was, who is driving. Apparently, if you rock up to a classic car club in a Zero ... you're as about as welcome as the proverbial .... in the astronaut suit.

Just saw a few excerpts; probably felt like a revival meeting for the Anglicans in the audience that lean high-church angl0-catholic. ?ÿ?ÿ
