My new old school Marantz 2270. When I bought it, the FM tuner had big issues, the power switch was broken, it needed a new lamp kit, and it was caked with layers of nicotine. I cleaned out the FM tuner gangs with non lubricating industrial strength contact cleaner, aligned the tuner, cleaned all pots and switches with Deoxit D-5, installed a new $5 power switch, installed a new incandescent lamp set, and replaced the old yellowed vellum with parchment paper in front of the lights. The old vellum gave the lights a greenish brown tint. It's blue once again and shouldn't yellow like vellum does with age.
It's rated at 70 old school underrated watts per channel and is probably the most popular of all the older 22XX series Marantz's, having a very nice, warm, tube like sound.
It cleaned up really nice.

I swear I think Dad had one of those. I think I tossed it when I cleaned out the basement.... D'oh!!
What's it probably worth? Just out of curiosity...
This one I would sell for $300, and it probably would sell within a couple of days. Now if I were to sell it on eBay, it would probably bring $350-$450. More if it was totally restored as in totally recapped. You could pay less for one, but most likely it'll have some issues. Everything on mine works like it should and works very good. eBay has a way of inflating prices. There's a much larger audience and sometimes if two people want it, they'll bid against each other and run up the bid.
A non working one or one with issues would probably sell for $100-150 on Craigslist. Parts are relatively cheap and easy to get for these.
Good job!!
I have an old 2015 that I have never even plugged in. A neighbor gave it to me many years ago. I suppose I should at least plug it in one day to see if it even powers up at all.
I have several stereos but no speakers to try them out on.
SSSWWWEEEEEEETTT!!
My 22 year old giant Phillips receiver was giving me problems with the power supply. It would cut off at random. Listening to music like this was a drag. So a few months ago I made a trip to the local hi-fi outfits that pretty much limited me to Radio Shack and Best Buy. The new stuff is JUNK. Cheap crummy plastic knobs. Wouldn't have it.
So I went looking for "old school" and found this one in my local. Fellow had it on Craigslist for $75. He restores them as a hobby. Pioneer SX-650 1974 vintage. Best $75 I've spent in a long long time!
Nice looking Pioneer there Dave. Those are pretty good too. You're right. The new stuff is junk, unless you fork out a grand. When they break, throw it away. Not with these old silver faces.
I have one of those too Eric. Mine needs some work though. Haven't got to it yet. Those are considered the "baby Marantz". Does yours have 4 or 5 buttons in the front? Mines a 4 button. (older)
Here's a picture of my 2015.

Nice! Love these old units. I had a Pioneer just like Dave's from high school all the way till I don't know when. I wish I still had it, that thing rocked. I have a fancy yamaha on the shelf now, but it just doesn't get used like the old one did.
Cool, now all you need is a technique turntable and a few hundred vinyl 33s. I agree that the tuners from that age had a different sound that was awesome. I would like to have one of those setups
I got tired of the modern day cheapos and went with a top of the line Denon that connects to the internet, Polk Audio speakers, they are awesome too.

I have a Technics SL 1300 turntable. Maybe I should play some Who..
Mine is 4 button just like the picture.
Mine does not have a wood frame though.
You are motivating me to go plug it in righ now.
Without speakers I'd have no idea if it works at all.
The lights might come on but that would be all I could tell.

The wood case was an option back in the day. Gotta pair of headphones? That'll work.
Not with the old style plug and no adapters.
Funny you guys mention a Technics turntable. Since I picked up the Pioneer receiver I figured I was well past due for a new stylus for my turntable. Read a lot of reviews and the Shure M97xE looked like a winner. So that is what I went with.
Good choice on the M97xE. I have one of those and I have Shure V-15RS also. I hope you got it from Amazon because those are going for practically dirt right now - a really awesome deal. Shure must be having a sale going on.
I actually have three of them, a Marantz 6100 and a Pioneer PL-707. I don't have any current pics, but here are some pic's off the 'net of the same ones. I bought the Pioneer new while I was stationed in Germany.
