Well, none of us really know if it was stolen or just misplaced, and we are just trying to help the guy get rolling again if he can't find it.

Something nasty in your Wheaties this morning?

😉

Sorry, I should reread my posts sometimes before sending. I did suggest that the advice sounded good, but I thought I would be pretty upset if my old machine turned up missing after holding on to it for the last 30 years.

I can certainly agree with that. I hope we get to hear the conclusion of the story.

Everybody has given sound advice and some darn nice gestures of good will, in one way I lost a little faith, but as a final result thanks to you guys I gained more than I lost 🙂 .

The biggest thing is that it was sorta like having a museum piece that was part of your own history, you have no idea how many adventures we went through, how many problems solved.

When I purchased this machine and learned the survey pac programs they catapulted me ahead of others who wouldn't, couldn't, or just didn't learn it, it really was a early revolution in land surveying calculations and really was a tremendous advantage. I worked for a few years in a busy little office where this was THE computer. I also had the card reader for storing survey jobs point files, and the printer.

After carefully keeping up with it for 20+ years it is very irritationg for it to disappear. It only sits in one spot and that room stays locked.....hmmm who the heck knows..what ya gonna do aye.

I still have my "original" HP-41c that I bought in 1979 or 80 (can't remember for sure, but it was NOT cheap). I don't use it anymore (I have 3 HP41cXs of which 2 get used daily, and a spare). I just put batteries in the "OLD" 41c, and it fired right up. Without a HP-41, I would be screwed. I wrote my own software for it 30+ years ago, and I still use that software EVERYDAY for this or that (on the 41cx). I also have a 41cv that I bought used in 1985, but it's deader than disco.

I feel your pain (about BOTH the HP and the fact that it "walked" out of your office).
