Some thoughts:
1. Who recorded this, and how did they follow him around without getting his anger directed at them? I would have expected a smashed camera/phone.
2. I wouldn't have the self-control to pretend that nothing is happening, like most of the passengers did.
3. Although most peoples' sympathy would be with the vet, I wonder if he wasn't legally guilty of assault & battery. I couldn't tell what the younger guy did when he went forward. Even if he poked the vet, did that legally warrant the use of greater force?
"I couldn't tell what the younger guy did when he went forward."
You couldn't? It looked to me like he went up there and got his arse kicked.
Old man has a wicked left.
But before that, did he just cuss out the vet or did he hit him?
It looked to me as if the punk gabbed at him with his left, the vet seems to block with his right and then jab with his killer left.
The vet walked away, the punk walked up the buss and asked for it.
Looked to me like the punk smacked the vet and was gonna do more to him but the vet reacted and whipped his butt!! Wow!! I truly did NOT expect to see THAT happen. I've seen so many of those punks beat and kill people... It's amazing to see this older vet fight back and actually succeed!! :good:
The ROCKY theme playing was just awesome!!! :hi5:
Mess with a bull, just might get the horns.
It appeared to me that the young girl towards the end was the one who was video-ing the two. What I thought was interesting was that everyone on the bus seemed to sympathize with the 67 year old vet.
I also thought it was great that this got on the web.
I would say it might make some other egomaniacal young gentlemen think twice before messing with the old guys, but that would indicate belief on my part that this sort thinks before they act.
As far as legal charges...the incident began with a threat from the young man. It looked like self defense to me.
I would have liked to see him explain to his mother how he got beat up.
The young guy appeared to be harassing the vet on the rear of the bus. The Vet was talking back but he DID move to the front of the bus to avoid further escalations.
Then the young guy went forward. That was his mistake and one that put me fully on the side of the vet. The punk got a spank down and deserved all he got. Once he reached or attempted to punch the vet then he's lucky he didn't get beat down, dragged off the bus and then beat down some more.
And we have no idea what sort of smack the young punk was talking on the back of the bus before the video.
What would expect the vet to do?

It doesn't sound like the 67-year-old was some innocent bystander, but was a ready participant. It sounds like the first guys asked him why a brother has to spit-shine his shoes, and the old man asked how much he charged. He later said it didn't have to be a brother, it could be a chinaman, or someone else......
It sounded like they were both itchin' for a fight, and the old guy was the better fighter. I would say that it was probably a good thing neither had deadly weapons.

It was verbal till the punk physically went after the vet. The vet was defending himself. What would have happened if the vet coward in his seat? The punk would have continued pounding on him.

I agree. It appears the punk swung first. But they were both threatening each other with violence. It's good to see that the old guy was able to defend himself and even beat down some younger guy.

I don't have much sympathy for either one now.

I agree with you Bill. It's sad they both were itching for a confrontation instead of treating each other with a little respect. Very sad indeed.

I always remind myself how a change in context can completely change ones perception of any given situation.
Keeping an open mind is pretty important...
I took a class once on the interpretation of visual data, very interesting how charts and graphs can lie, even videos. It all relates back to the context, what is missing, where the data actually begins and ends, what select part of the data is being displayed, who is telling the story and their motivations.

Very good point, Deral. Unfortunately it seems that there is more disrespect in today's society than respect. I must be from the old school because I was taught to respect my elders, vets, aunts, uncles, anyone, really, and give them a chance. It is left up to them if they want to act like idiots and lose my respect. (which some do).
Of course I am also a sucker for the elderly. I get very VERY upset when I see them getting mistreated!! :-@
