I was thinking back to my childhood. I used to get in trouble my fair share.
Guess my mom saw my potentional long before I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.
She was always telling me the same thing over and over again.
Countless times over the years really.
I truly believe her words inspired me to become a Professional Surveyor.
All those times I thought I was in trouble, it was really words of encouragement. Heck I thought I was a pretty bad kid growing up as much as it seemed I was getting in trouble. But I have come to realize mom was just leading me down the path I was destined to follow.
Each time I did something.
took the big spoon out because I needed a shovel. Nothing but words of encouragement.
Used up all her perfume, laundry detergent, dads cologne, and anything else I could find to make 'potions'. Noting but words of encouragement.
When I thought a dinner plate would make a good frisbee. It looked like a frisbee. Nothing but words of encouragement.
When I kicked out a basement window while trying to climb in an upstairs window. Nothing but words of encouragement.
When I took a sledge hammer and knocked that support beam out, which caused the front porch to collapse. Nothing but words of encouragement.
I can go on and on. Each time though, mom was right there 'encouraging' me.
"You better go find a corner"
I was good at it then, still not bad now.

How introspective!
My mom had a very effective way of punishing me when I was small. She would hold her middle finger with her thumb and place it just below my chin area. When the thumb released, that finger would give me an eye-watering thump. Quiet and effective.
That's an instant classic John.
I got the belt strap, some would say too much, some would say too little. It was plenty enough for my liking. Pulling weeds was first duty for minor infractions with no potential for loss of blood and was way excessive when BB huntin' grasshoppers must needs be done.
Great piece of writing, John. Don't change it. Write something else as good or better.
