I saw the young man in the Department week before last. He might have been looking for his assigned Advisor in Civil Engineering. If so, he may wind up in one or more of my courses. Guess he'll need to do something after he retires from the NFL!

Although it is anecdotal evidence, it is a fair indication that the Honey Badger has actually been seen on the LSU campus somewhere besides the football training facility and the stadium.

Prof,

Just who/what the H is Honey Badger? Inquiring minds are curious.

Tyran Mathieu is #7 on the LSU football team. That's the nickname he has been given by the local news media. He's a sophomore and has become nationally famous for his remarkable defensive tactics as well as returns including last week's 96-yard return.

Watch the SEC Championship, or the BCS Championship, games and you will see for yourself.

If he keeps it up,he will catch on with someone NFL as a special teams player. Most of the time size matters. that is one of the reasons that he is at LSU. All out of state universities never even went to look at him in HS because of his size. Their loss and LSU's gain.
LSU scouts saw him because he was an in-state talent and gave him a chance based on his speed and skills and a lot of heart.

But in the NFL, going up against players like Saint's Jimmy Graham and Marques Colson, he would be totally mis-matched.
I think he is only 5'7" or so.
You don't find defensive players in the NFL at that size.

Well, if you watched the SEC Championship game this afternoon you should now know who the "Honey Badger" is.

You might get an argument on that from Darren Sproles. Sproles is 5'6" and 190 lbs. New Orleans Saints. Runs like a wildman amongst those "big" boys.
It's not the size of the player, it's the size of his heart.
Wasn't there a basketball player of that size named "Spud" that they all snickered at, until he got on the court?
Skills, ability and desire trump height everytime.

He is a good kid, I just hope he does not go pro in a hurry.

We are talking about a defensive player not offense.
Mathiu is blessed to be surrounded by real NFL talent... Baker, Reid, Claiborne, Mingo et al.
John Chavis uses Mathieu as a roving dervish on defense because of the talent around him can cover 1v1.
Johmn Chavis is a brilliant DC. LSU got him after the Lane Kiffen hire at TN and Kiffen replaced him with his dad.
