This coming week will be pretty full. Dropped of Youngest Hog at the fair yesterday, and the camper. Spent last night there, so she could be up do do all 1st day stuff. Am care then the officail weigh in- Her Hog was just fine- 254# the range is 220-285. There are 149 hogs to weigh in this am. I was there for 2hrs- lot of light hogs- so just because the spring was so wet and they didn't gain as well and 2nd there was a shortage of weiner pigs available, so at least one club started out with weiners only weighing #25- not a good thing.

That skinny mattress in the camper will likely near kill me before the week is up. Plus the town noise is ridiculous.

Tuesday take the family hog to Lower Valley processing
Wednesday most all day at fair for the show-
Thursday work all day, then fair at night for the rodeo concession
Friday work all day, then Wedding rehearsal for daughter of family friends- I'm sound man at the church-
Saturday Buyer's breakfast - then sale till probably 330 pm. Then the wedding.
Sunday church, then move everything home-

Monday- - probably go to the chiropractor......

Showing Breeders or Fat Stock?

I won Reserve Champion of Breed 2 years in a row at the county Fat Stock show when I was in FFA. Got Reserve Grand Champion the second year. Had some fun.

Good Luck to your Youngest.

You've got a country song in the making!!!!!! 🙂

Question, why don't you process the pig yourself? We do all of our own venison and pork. I have no beef yet, but I'll take that to the slaughter house.

These are market hogs- if they make weight- they are judged on showman, market and carcass- part of the carcass competition is based on an ultrasound for measuring back fat.

Then the animal can be sold at the auction on Saturday.

If the animal doesn't make weight, the 4-her can still show it for show but not for market and it wont be judged for carcass either.

It can't be sold at the auction and the 4-her has to find his own buyer/ have it out of the barn by 6pm on Wednesday night.

@ Kris-
I butcher our deer and elk, but not hogs-
I drop them off at Lower valley and pick them up 10 days later in nice little white packages- I got more productive things to do with my time.

Okay, I liked it better as I first read it:
