Might not be news to some. Leica has branched out into the smartphone market with their own version. Was reading Shelby Griggs' gs18i
comment from earlier, and couldn't understand the 'whys'?ÿ of the Leica mediocre camera performance.?ÿ Leica IS cameras, and their new smartphone has THE camera installed.

nice Android in a Sharp body, wonder if it will sell. For now only for Japan.
They could have poured money into their own version of a chassis, or adapt a number of available models to their camera and software.?ÿ It maybe makes sense in that respect.
The amount of storage, and Leica hardware/software make it interesting.
"wonder if it will sell. For now only for Japan."?ÿ If SoftBank doesn't turn it into another WeWork tragedy, everyone
else might get access to try it out.

I Love Leicas. I Love Smartphones. I Love using Smartphones as Data Collectors. I DO NOT want a Leica Smartphone.?ÿ
Curious what software/smartphone you are running as a data collector?
I'm sure I saw a huge billboard down this way, maybe 4 years ago, with one of the big Companies like Sammy or Huwey touting a new phone that had Leica branded optics.

There are some good reasons for the camera used in the GS18i, it has to do with type needed (global shutter and field of view) and ability in the field to process the images. By even most cell phone standards now, very low resolution, BUT good enough to make measurements from. (Global shutter with 1.2 MP | Hz 80?ø, V 60?ø | 20 Hz)
I have a Panasonic camera that uses a Leica lens so they are out there in non Leica equipment.
Being a Leica guy I might be interested in that phone if it makes it to USA. It is a rebadged Sharp Aquos R6. It is going for USD $1,705, so even assuming it was available, would I?

I could tell just by looking at it that I would be forever placing the lense on my ear to answer calls. ?????ÿ
