Many players have had their brackets seriously broken already. The only good thing with the big upsets is that the vast majority all have the same wrong winners. The problem comes when you had that upset loser winning a few more games.

Historic day in NCAA tourney history

After an opening Thursday schedule that ran fairly true to form, today was all over the frickin' place. Great basketball played by "Davids" versus "Goliaths", and still more to come. 15-seeds prevailed over 2-seeds twice. That NEVER happens, eh? Pretty sure that our friend Pauly probably had to change his diapers a couple times while watching the Lehigh win over Duke. Brackets were busted, and lot of money went swirling down the terlet today.

Sports-wise, outside of pre-spawn bass fishing, this is my favorite time of the year. Have already informed my clients that my productivity will be low for next week or two.

In my neck of the woods, it's all Gonzaga, all the time. I like the Zags chances against Ohio State tomorrow. There are some great individual match-up possibilities in that game, and that's what it's all about. If you are a basketball fan this is what makes it interesting.

Am glad that Lehigh U now has something to be proud of aside from their wrestlers. If Pauly sends me a Mountain Hawks tee-shirt (size 3XL), I will gladly continue to root for them.

The SEC is welcome to take the showboat egotists that sometimes play for Missouri. BTW, they had lost only four times prior to today. One team beat them twice. That team plays Syracuse next while Missouri gets to cry in their beer.

Mackey McKnight , Lehigh's point guard, is from New Orleans.
His family were Katrina refugees that ended up in Houston where he played HS ball. Lehigh found him there and he has produced for them.
But.. it is a team sport and I like these little teams knocking the big boys out.
It is a great 'teachable moment' for me as a youth sports coach.
One of my teams(one of the least successful as far as W's) plays the area's premiere team twice and maybe 3 times in the next 2 weeks. It wpould be nice to have some competitive games and not get smoked.

OK Bill

BTW, what is up with Boise State wrestling this year?

BSU did not rank in the top 25 and since I did not print out the brackets I am unsure of how many wrestlers they may have sent to the NCAAs.

Defending National Champion Penn State sent 9 wrestlers to the NCAA Tournament and 5 will be in finals matches tommorow.

Lehigh sent 8 wrestlers, one losing to a PSU wrestler in the semis and two going to the finals. One of those final matches will be Lehigh-PSU.

Penn State leads 2nd place Minnesota by 22.5 points, so back to back team championships should be a lock.

Lehigh is 2.5 points behind Ohio State and tied for 6th place with Illinois.

Local Easton High School wrestler is in the finals tomorrow for Oklahoma State.

Besides the wrestling finals tomorrow, Lehigh lacrosse opens up league play against Army.

Then Sunday is another basketball game.

OK Bill

I went through the entire brackets this morning. Boise State sent 4 wrestlers to the NCAAs, I did not see them advancing very far.

I am also very disappointed in the Big 12, only 5 wrestlers will be wresting today for positions and Oklahoma State has 3 of them.

Three of the finals matches will be Big 10 - Big 10.

You or whoever wants to let me know... I will keep an eye on it as well. I just don't follow basket ball too much so I have to get reminders. 😐

Now...baseball is another story. Especially when MY TEAM plays!! 😀

It Was Fun While It Lasted, Xavier 70 - Lehigh 58

Lehigh led at the end of the first half 37-33, but came out cold to start the second half and could not recover.

My Gators crushed the other Cinderella, Norfolk State, with a 28 point lead at the half and a 29-6 run. I'm guessing the Sweet 16 is the end of the road for the Gators, though. They are pretty good, but not an elite team.
