SWMBO's Thinkpad recently developed a big black blotch obscuring about a third of the right half of the display. www.laptopscreens.com had a replacement screen for $68. They have displays for about every laptop ever produced, it seems. Received it in 2 days.
Took 10 minutes to swap out; would have been 5, but I spent 5 minutes on my hands and knees with a flashlight hunting down a dropped screw the size of a sesame seed.
Much cheaper than a new laptop....
HINT: If you don't have a magnetized screwdriver, stick a magnet to an unmagnetized one and voil?ÿ!

That's one of the unavoidable rules of the universe, hunting dropped screws is required.

It's best to work with a dog at your feet that is familiar with you purposely dropping food bits for them. If you can't see where the screw went the dog will surely already have his nose there.
When I loose a screw I just shake my head and one or two will fall out of my ear. 😉
And here I thought those were marbles! Proves that I lost all my lose screws long ago I guess. 😀
An old tip from cleaning and oiling fishing reels. Get yourself a empty egg carton and arrange the screws and springs in the separate spaces.
