This is just too damm funny not to share. I wouldn't believe it had I not seen it my own self. So I'm sitting here on the couch watching some TV and Momma Kitty is asleep behind my head. Out of the blue she starts growling big time. I thought maybe I leaned back on her or something. Nope, she's about 2' feet away. I turn to look and she's growling like hell and paws twitching all over and completely zonked out. Most of us have likely seen dogs do that but I've never seen a cat do that. I know I'm thankful to have someone wake me from a bad one but I was kinda scared to stir her out of it. I did finally and she looked like she just woke in a whole new world.
Golly mercy the stuff we see without a camera on hand. Maybe you had to be here but it was damm funny!!

Doozey starts twitching when she falls into a deep sleep and sometimes she makes moaning noises. She has gotten very relaxed and fallen off of my wife's lap.

Her rescue name was French for 12 which the girls changed to Doozey. Her brother (a siamese mix) was 11 which they changed to Ouncey but he didn't live very long.
BunBun came a couple of years later. They named him that because he has a short tail and hopped like a bunny (not so much anymore).

I had a rat named Honey. I started calling her Honey Bun, then Bunrat, then BunBunBunBun, then just Bun. Somehow no matter what we name our animals (and kid!) the names always turn into something else. 🙂
My daughter would clobber me if I posted her "nickname" here. SO I better refrain. 😛

It's OK...I don't expect everyone to find rats "cute". I use to think they were absolutely disgusting myself until I got my first two rats, SugSug and BunBuns. Then, I learned a valuable lesson about judging something by what others try to make you believe it is. In this case, rats. 🙂

OK, I will stipulate that rats could be considered cute. My next question is their capacity for restraint as far as their bodily functions are concerned. I know all too well that cats have a secret weapon in that regard but they can be good and use a litter box if they want to. Rats? I'm not so sure. The only context I have is wild rat habitat and based on that, I question their concern for hygiene.

Rats are potty trainable. Wendell and I have trained a many of our rats to not use anything else but their cage spot for their facilities. Our current 2 girls are potty trained. I've trained my past boys to even use a ratty litter box. As for cleanliness, heck they are cleaner than most HUMANS I know. They do NOT like anything dirty. I also bathe my rats to keep them extra squeaky clean. Girl rats don't make a "buck grease" like the boys do, so the boys need a bath quite a bit more often to keep their fur all soft and fuzzy. But there is a big difference between wild rats and tame trained pet rats. I would never recommend wild rats as a pet, nor anyone try to get close to one. 😐
Here's an older pic of rats first bath. Soon as they are able I get them use to baths so when they go to their new homes the new adopters can keep up the bathing routine and have the rat use to it.

Here's Wendell with his first rat, Sugar. "SugSugBitchBitch" was her nickname because she was VERY possessive of Wendell. She loved me too but when she was with her poppa, she did not want to share. When I tried to come near Wendell to give him a kiss/hug while she was on his shoulder, she'd come and nudge me away!! BunBunBunBun couldn't get close either...Sugs would chase her off! Little brat!! :pissed:

BunBun the cat would probably want to make friends with BunBunBunBun the rat; he's pretty outgoing for a cat.
