just uploaded two new apps for the iPhone...Dragon and Pandora ...pretty cool...check em out
Daryl,
They certainly have some cool apps for the iphone, ipad, droid, etc. I’m waiting for Paulk to post something about how he likes his ipad. Headed to the Caribbean in 3 weeks and would consider purchasing one to accompany me and SWMBO.
Take care, and keep posting your pics! 🙂
what's an iphone?
Dave,
I think it’s some sort of electrical do-dad that enables one to “communicate”. 😉
Have a great weekend !
Well this is just a test of the Dragon application and it appears to work very well I must say
WOW! I just did that with the free dragon application on my iPad. I dictated it, it transcribed my speech and I pasted it here!
Amazing.

My wife's son has one and downloaded a barscan ap. He went to a store to but an item he had been looking for and was surprised at the price. He scanned the item with his phone and showed the clerk. He saved $18± by showing the competitions price for the same thing. The savings were more than the cost of the downloaded ap...hmmm not bad.
if you have a Sirius radio account, download the MusicDock app. You can listen to Howard Stern with that app, and I don't think you can with the official sirius app.
VideoPano is a cool one too, you take a sweep in video mode and it converts it to a panoramic photo.
Shakeit photo will make your pics look like a polaroid
All you flatlanders and city-folk with those iPhones... out here in the hills and valleys we just can't get the same stuff.
Not that I really want to buy an Apple product anyway.
??...ya mean you don't have apples out thar..
dang....ya don't know what yer missing...:)
I've been resisting switching providers so far, even though AT & T has good coverage here. But Apple sure seems to have gotten this product just about right.
My idea is to market a lightweight 6" X 8" X 3/4" thick "notebook" with integrated but detachable small cell phone, so you could actually read and write text and view and edit photos, videos etc. on the notebook. When you want to just make a call, remove the phone from the charging dock in the notebook so you can talk about the photo, video, contract, etc. on the notebook in front of you. Or simply put on the speakerphone. (Of course, you could also use the notebook to watch movies, do word processing, everything current laptops can do.)
If you go into the store or out in the field, take the phone and leave the notebook in the car.
I would use something like this, but would I want to carry it around? Would kids? That seems like the biggest drawback, but if Kindles become really popular, I might carry one around just for the reading material. It's cool to get photos from friends and relatives right when things are occurring, but I can't appreciate a 1-1/2" X 2" photo very much, and I'm not sure how much bigger a phone I'd want to carry around.
This is probably just another idea that will never amount to anything, like my idea 20 years ago that they should rent videos out of machines in the grocery store. But sometimes, it's fun to guess where technology might go, especially when you can see what actually happens just a few years later.
I love my iPad and it has come in very handy on my trips this past year. I did not get one with the 4G but just rely on wifi where ever I go to hook up. All motels now seem to have it and many cafe's, rest stops and other places. In fact, I hardly ever find a spot without wifi.
Large well lit screen and I really, really like the touch interface. It's certainly not a laptop or something to try and use for work stuff but for checking websites, composing e-mails, downloading photos and such then it's perfect for me. Very light weight and I have the apple slim case for it. (highly recommended when traveling). The case protects that large screen when it's stored in your suitcase or in the bag on the back of the motorcycle.
I don't have to use the smaller mobile apps intended for the phones and can use the full browser application (I use Safari). I have photobucket on it, several weather apps, betty crocker cookbook, google earth, ArcGIS Mobile and I use Pages (by Apple) for lite word processing and note taking while on a trip.
The only drawback is that it , or I should say Apple, did not support the flash for videos. They just announced though that they are changing that to all flash support for the iPhone and the iPad.
I also have the 11C app and it's like having another 11c handy for calculations.
I have several games including solitaire, blocks, labrinth, maze, and jigsaw puzzles.
Battery life is very good and I give it a thumbs up for what I'm doing with it.
If I do a planned trip to Nova Scotia and across Alaska I'll probably buy a new one with the 4g built in just because of the remote area.

Thanks for the info, I will probably end up getting one, I'm a sucker for electronic toys!
Have a great week!:-)
I will say this. No matter where I go it turns into the center of attention and I have a hard time keeping it to myself.
Took it to the OU Medical center a couple of times and every doctor and nurse wanted to try it out.
If you get the one with 4g then it has all the advantages of a smart phone with a HUGE screen. I will still likely pick up an iPhone but for pictures and stuff then the large screen is a definite plus.
If you have any specific questions then just ask. I love mine.
I have a wireless network at the house and enjoy sitting out by the pool or on one of the benches by my flower gardens and surfing the web while enjoying the fresh air.

Some people do, but NONE of them like their coverage. Spring or Alltel or whoever does the iPhones has bad service up here. When Apple goes over to Verizon, there will be a whole lot more people up here that will have them.

My understanding is that Apple isn't providing native iPhone/iPad Flash support, but has changed its terms of service to allow developers to emulate Flash. Skyfire is an example application that downloads Flash content to Skyfire servers, which convert it to HTML5 and then send the converted code to the Skyfire app, which then renders the code in a thumbnail window in Safari. It's a pretty kludgy arrangement, especially since some content providers are blocking the Skyfire servers.
Thanks Jim for the update. It's not been a big deal for me since I don't worry about videos and such. The iPads does what I want so I'm happy with it. It's just a tool like all the other we carry around.
It serves its purpose and the things it does it does very well.
> The iPads does what I want so I'm happy with it. It's just a tool like all the other we carry around.
Note that I'm not complaining about the absence of Flash support in Apple products. Though I don't currently use any Apple gear, I'd like to see Flash relegated to the dustbin. It presents an enormous security risk for PCs, something that Adobe doesn't seem very concerned about.
HTML5 offers some hope, but there are big looming questions about "submarine" patent rights for the Ogg codecs, which are currently favored by the open-source community over the H.264 codecs, which are seen as too expensive in addition to being proprietary.
Unfortunately, it's a mess not likely to be resolved soon.
Deral,
Thank you for the info. Does 4g require a subscription to a cell phone provider? I have a nook with 3g which is free.
Have a great week!:-)
Ps: If you, and your lady friend ever decide to visit Bike Week, or Biketoberfest in Daytona y’all can stay with SWMBO and me. (I’ll have to put y’all in the upstairs bedroom, it has a private bathroom, a pool table in the room adjacent to the bedroom and a private balcony [with rocking chairs for us old farts] overlooking the pool and lake). We live in Sanford, FL, about 30 min from Daytona. Neat back roads to get there too with thousands of bikers everywhere. I don’t ride but I love to look at all the cool bikes everywhere.
Yeah, I've posted several times here from my Droid using speech recognition. I just tap on the text box when creating a message and start talking.
Deral,
I am apparently having a "senior" moment, duh, 😉 I researched and answered my own question to you. The invite, however, still stands.
Have a great week!
