I used to say that my job is to stamp out ignorance, like in stamping out bugs. But now I think that we may be stamping it out like sheet metal parts.

I'll admit that since I got a my first driving gps a couple of years ago I've learned how easy it is to zone out and just listen to the machine. This, however, is pretty ridiculous. It sounds like a fence might be in order.

I remember my first GPS. It was a USB unit that would plug into the laptop. It was before these sophisticated GIS routines that would force the GPS results onto the road, so it would show me driving up to 60' off the road.

I rather enjoy my TomTom. We call her Tomasina (female voice). My favorite game is messing with her route. "Turn around when possible" turns to normal route guidance once she catches up with different navigating styles.

Technology will only make those who are dull of mind more dull. The people who drive into the runways or flooded roads or otherwise would have done so with or without maps, GPS or otherwise. It is pure Darwinism.

Same with RTK GPS, and with listening to EVERYBODY tell you how to raise your kids!
