Surveyors get to see quite a few unusual things upon the properties we work on or around. This mailbox caught my eye as probably the finest hotrod mailbox I've ever seen.
I like it too! I use to drive a Hot Rod. 1971 Dodge Demon. Her name was "Sharlet" because I didn't like the name "demon". I sure miss that car!!! *sniffles*
Wendell says one day he will get me another one. It would be something if he could find my original Sharlet again. 🙁
Did that car seem to have less pep after you renamed it? LOL
"Hey is that a VW Microbus that just passed us?"
"Yeah, Sharlet just hasn't had much oomph since I renamed her!"
Smart ass. 😛
Sharlet was fast!! Well after she got "fixed" with a Holly Carb, engine revival, big fat tires, etc... I had many a fun times racing idiots who thought my car was just a pansy woman's car. HAH!! 🙂
Funny thing is I can do that today with my Crown Vic. Sometimes Wendell and I get these teenie bopper & young adult morons who think its a granny car. OK it is, but this granny car has a police interceptor engine in it and hauls!! It was originally intended to be a police car but at the last minute things changed so they only took out the stuff to make it street legal. Wendell can explain it better than me. I just love driving it for the speed and the fact that it is so smooth, it's like sitting on a couch. 🙂
Someone I know buys police cruisers.
The latest one he go new from a NC auction. Someone blundered and they painted it wrong. It is 2-toned (black/silver) and they reversed the colors . I think that it was going to be a state police cruiser.S o whoever ordered them, canceled the delivery and they were auctioned off.
I think it is a Crown Vic also. Fast and top of the linesuspension
I don't know if this is true but...
A CHP mechanic told me a stock civilian Crown Vic could beat a Police Interceptor model (up a grade anyway) because of all the weight the L.E. agencies load those cars down with like the cage, guns, stuff in the trunk, radio gear, push bumper, etc.
Here's a few pics of our "Couch". I  her!! Grandma too!! Of course it has sentimental meaning to us because his 91 year old grandma gave us the car. It was HER $32,000 baby. And it's one of the only cars Wendell can sit in comfortably being as tall as he is.
Grandma hugging the Couch good-bye.
Grandma giving the keys to Wendell.
Couch in Snow.
When we bought the Taurus 4 years ago one of the used cars they had on the lot was a Crown Vic. It had all way power seat is one thing I remember.
We didn't select it and I kind of wish we had because it's big roomy car with a lot of acceleration. I remember it driving like a big boat though.
Claire is driving the Taurus which is probably a better car for her.
My neighbor had the Mercury version of the Crown Vic and I remember him telling me he got over 30 mpg on road trips which seems incredible.
The Crown Vic IS a big boat!! Heck all it needs is propeller things and viola! A wonderful sea vessel. LOL!!
Seriously though, it really is a wonderful automobile. It is so nice to drive this car on the long road trips because it has that lumbar support plus the seats are just divine!! It's so comfortable and easy to get in and out of. The trunk is HUGE! Tis one of the original reasons why Grandma bought it; she wanted to be able to put her walker upright in the trunk without having to fold it up each time. It plopped right back there easily.
30 gallons??!! Dang...I know we don't get that and this is one of the side effects of the "Couch". It's a gas hog!!
I have a handicapped friend with a shorter leg/bad limp and any of our other cars he has a hard time with, but not this one, so whenever Wendell and I go visit him to take him shopping, etc... we take the "Couch" so it is easier for him to maneuver in and out of too. Plus he gets a kick going on a "joy ride" in the "cop car". hehehe me too. 😉
a big vehicle is a big vehicle so it takes a certain amount of energy to move it down the road but it is possible to get significantly better mileage just by the way you drive it.
When my employee drives the F250 super duty crew cab truck he squeezes 16+ mpg out of it. He uses a very light foot and low cruising speeds. Drag increases as the square of the speed.
I'm not as patient so my mileage never approaches 16 mpg. Of course we get atrocious gas mileage when we do a lot of dirt road driving, particularly in 4WD low range.

Wait... aren't you supposed to drive it with the pedal to the metal?
