For all us hockey geeks who pose as surveyors in our other life, this is an interesting twist to the new league structure. Personally, I kind of like it. Every team will play every team at least twice per year, instead of who knows when. Plus, most rivalries are still intact.

2012/13 NHL League format

As a bonus, a certain Dallas Star fan will now be more exposed to my Red Wings. News at 11 as this season moves along.....:-) (see ya in the West Finals Bud)

I was reading the story on nhl.com today and got to the comments. One guy suggested that they needed two more teams and he would really like to see Hamilton Ontario get one because they have been waiting for a long time.

I had to go ahead and comment that FtWorth Texas wants one too, and in my opinion they should get one before any Canadian city gets one.

I dont know, I just love flame wars 🙂

> ...they needed two more teams

I'm more of the feeling they need two less teams. That would make it an even 28. All playoffs in any sport need to be directly divisible by 4, and 30 isn't quite there.

How about brooming the Florida Panthers & Carolina Hurricanes. They both should just stick to NASCAR and leave hockey alone. Besides, the East coast is way overloaded with NHL teams. And for that matter, most other sports...:-P

....Bye bye butterfly, enjoy your ride up the coast....

BTW, Go Red Wings!!!!!

I am a NY Ranger fan for over 50 years and I agree. 6 teams and a lot of home and homes.
NY at Boston on Saturday afternoon and Boston at NY Sunday night. Grudge games galore.

It will be good for Dallas fans. Not as many road games starting at 9:00 pm on TV.

Probably a good move for the whole league, economically speaking.
