Several years ago I took the grandkids to a huge pumpkin patch around Halloween.?ÿ They had a huge maze made of big hay bales.?ÿ But, the best part was they had humongous sling shots where you would place a pumpkin in it, then pull back as hard as you could to shoot them at targets at varying distances.?ÿ Let's just say I was the biggest kid in the place that day.

20 years or so ago I mentioned to my doc that my neck hurt when I turned my head more than maybe 30 degrees.?ÿ He poked and prodded a bit, then sent me off to xray.?ÿ When the image came back he pointed out that I have a couple of seriously degenerated cervical discs.?ÿ Nothing to worry about -- it's quite common -- except for the discomfort.?ÿ I asked what I could do about it, and he said, "Well, there's always ibuprofen."?ÿ When he saw my disappointment, he followed up with "Some people find that glucosamine helps."

I started taking glucosamine daily, and after about 6 months I realized that I could turn my head a lot farther than before without any pain.?ÿ It doesn't do anything to fix the discs, it just helps with the inflammation.

I pretty much forgot about the whole thing, just kept taking the glucosamine.?ÿ A couple of years later we went to a big water park for my son's birthday.?ÿ One ride in particular involved joining several others on a raft that the ride operator basically pushed off a cliff.?ÿ It wasn't quite vertical, but pretty darn close.?ÿ It was a hoot until the raft reached the bottom of the cliff, a fairly sharp vertical U shape.?ÿ During that sudden change of direction I thought my head as going to fly off.?ÿ The pain was intense.

No more water parks -- or anything that jerks my head around -- for me.

?ÿ

I'm with you Jim - I detached a retina during a rather ungainly landing off a water slide...

Down here in ƒ??World, Worldƒ? we once had a water park named Wet nƒ?? Wild. The pamphlets and bulletin board available at the entrance included the business cards of Dentists, Lawyers, Chiropractors, Witch doctors, ƒ??guaranteedƒ? S??ance experiences, free* tickets to Brother Loves Travelinƒ?? Salvation Show, and two or three self-proclaimed hospital transport ƒ??Ambulances ƒ??with cool stereos and paint jobs in the handicapped parking spaces. ?????ÿ

shoot them at targets at varying distances

In Puyallup, they have prizes, if you hit the targets; did you win anything?

Me neither, but it sure was fun!

We have corn mazes:
