Now before everybody starts screaming "Photo Shop", go check out the Clarion-Ledger website and view the front page to verify this photo.
That's out new state record "Large Lizard" at 727 pounds. It outweighed a gator caught 1 hour before that weighed 723.5 pounds.
The idea that these things must be hand caught on a line justifies my decision NOT to participate in this sport. (If I could shoot them from afar as they bask in the sun, that would be fine, but state law forbids that.)

The Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors used to have a stuffed alligator on display that appeared of similar girth. I think it was 18 feet long, but I am not sure. It certainly appeared mighty big.
