Sometimes getting wrong data has interesting consequences

Last week Nicaragua accidentally 'invaded' Columbia

There's a good article about it here...

Apparently Google Maps (and Earth) had the boundary wrong

Now, as surveyors, we all know that GIS data is perfect - dont we?

Idiots...using Google to determine their boundary!!!!

For the record Google Earth is a very useful tool. We use it a lot in helping our field crews. Now we only use it for reference, we do not map with it.

You mean that boundary I staked last week from the county GIS coordinates might be wrong?
