Saw this on my Google News feed. Enjoy
A surveyor saw his duty to protect the public and stepped up to alert the city council.
I'm glad somebody is on top of that.
From first hand experience here in Moore, Oklahoma, things are not as optimistic. A dozer or track hoe can clean a lot of property pins up along with the debris. We've done quite a bit of restoration in the "ground zero" area. The only thing worse than not finding any original control due to the cleanup is tripping over the dozen or so crews of "button pushers" that have rolled back in there using exact platted distances and bearings....with reckless abandon.
I will be surprised if there's not a law suit or two in a couple of places.
I thought this was a particularly informative and professional response:
"Asked if the landmarks could be replaced by the use of GPS coordinates, Ranum said seven ways of marking property have priority under the law as landmarks ahead of GPS coordinates."
