Gonna see a few sights and take some pictures. Looking forward to some food that is not common to South Georgia.

i went once. saw a mets game at shea. i was blown away by the enormity of the city. the 'street food' as i call it was the best part for this GA boy. the food in general was amazing, but the street food was superb. stay away from the chain restaurants and find small places to eat. the subway is nasty (john rocker was right). central park made me laugh (people thinking they are 'out in nature'). broadway was cool. the hotel rooms are tiny. the village at night was a neat vibe.

You might get in touch with Scott Zelenak and see if he is still doing personal walk-thru's of the Freedom Tower site.

If you are in the East Village check out McSorley's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McSorley%27s_Old_Ale_House

It's been a long time since I've been there, but McSorley's stands out. Very unique.

Prepare to utter the words: Why, God, why did I subject myself to this? Please take me home!

Make sure to go to Coney Island and get a Nathans dog. Papaya King has some pretty tasty dogs as well. Seek out Sicillian on here for more food advice. Try to get a slice of pizza and visit a deli too.

1. take the subway to the first station in Brooklyn and walk the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan.
2. The Staten Island Ferry is free and worth the ride.

If you need any tips or advice, shoot me an e-mail.

By all means try to contact Scott Z......you never know how high up you might wind up.

Subways are MUCH better than made out to be by John Rocker....he just didn't like diversity. A trip to Coney Island and Nathans is worth it.

"stay away from the chain restaurants" is excellent advice.......they do it better outside of NYC anyway.

The one thing that I always tell everyone vising NYC is to see a Broadway show. Either a musical or a play, it doesn't matter.
Tickets are pricey but if you shop around you can find a deal. Maybe some 2 for 1s or balcony or mezzanine seating at matinees. You may think that ii is money washed away but you will probably have a great 2 hours of entertainment.

Right now you can see Al Pacino playing Shylock in the e Merchant of Venice, Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth in the Adams Family, The Pee Wee Herman Show.
Even shows that you think that you may not be interested in will entertain you like the Lion King,
eat pizza, stroll Little Italy and Chinatown. They are morphed together now.
See a museum like MOMA or the American Natural History.
See the WTC site and stroll to Battery park and see the Statue of Liberty or catch a boat ride there.
Do a lot of walking and when you had enough get a taxi.
Subways are OK. Look for big rats. Our son saw NYC mega-rat on our last trip.

Actually, even at the last minute, go to broadway.com, or to the TKTS booth in Times Square at 48th Street for show tickets.

Of course, this weekend it's going to be tough as all the Thanksgiving Parade people are in town (bands, schools, etc.)

Speak of the devil, if you are in town Wednesday evening, go on up to West 77th Street and watch them blow up the balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Get there before 6 PM....it gets crowded.

Defintely see a show. We were there in July 2008 and saw Boeing Boeing in an afternoon show. It was fantastic and hilarious. Bradley Whitford (from The West Wing and The Good Guys), Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight and The West Wing), Gina Gershon, Christine Baranski were in it.

Mentioning "Boeing Boeing", the star of that show, who is not well known outside of NY and London, was Mark Rylance, a fantastic actor.

Rylance plays a boorish street performer competing against a highbrow writer (David Hyde Pierce of "Frasier") for the favor of a princess (Joanna Lumley from the British show "Ab-Fab") in "La Bete", which is a riot. And probably is on the TKTS half price booth.
