GLO 1930 proceedure.

Find loose stone, reset stone and set post and cap alongside.

So where is the corner?

GLO Notes

Gonna be in the area tommorrow looking for these guys.

0.62 chains south as evidenced by the original bearing trees and the hole where the stone was originally set. 😉

If you find the stone alongside the BC, I'd use the stone and consider the BC and accessory.

Yes sir, the corner position is occupied by the stone, just like it has been for many many moons.

Just be thankful your licensing board has resisted the temptation (so far) to legislate how you handle the situation.

I’ve always wondered if the GLO had some sort of directive, a “circular” or memo or some such when they started doing this or if these guys were just going freestyle with their methodology. Mr. 1930 makes it clear that he is holding the found stone and setting a de facto iron lath next to it with info about what the stone is, but odds are landowners, and likely surveyors too lazy to research the 1930 notes, used the lath.

I think it was GLO policy for a few years around 1930 to leave the stone and set a post/cap alongside. That's how they all are around here.
