1st - Every action done in company ought to be with some sign of respect to those that are present.

22nd - Show not yourself glad at the misfortune of another, though he were your enemy.

49th - Use no reproachful language against anyone; neither curse nor revile

50th - Be not hasty to believe flying reports to the disparagement of any."

56th - Associate yourself with men of good quality, if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company.

65th - Speak not injurious words, neither in jest or earnest; scoff at none although they give occasion.

108th - When you speak of God or his attributes, let it be seriously & with reverence. Honor & obey your natural parents although they be poor.

110th - Labor to keep alive in your breast that little celestial fire called conscience.

I was going to put this under site issues but things here have been respectful lately.

Tyler,

Thanks for the link. I have a copy of the book on my desk for visitors to see and read.

I had forgotten about these.
Those are all good and I wish more would abide.

Rule #4 about not drummer your fingers reminds me of a staff meeting we were having many years ago. One guy was not only innattentive, he was clipping his nails right there shooting clippings all over the conference table. We all sat there in disbelief. I finally piped up and said something [rather direct and explicit]. He was about a foot taller and twice my weight and former SEAL - but damm, I just couldn't stand it. I've never seen anyone so disrespectful before or since.

Not chewing with your mouth open is another serious peave of mine. From the same team as above, there was a guy that sat across the cubicle wall from me who smacked gum all day long. How anyone could make that much noise chewing gum is a complete mystery to me.

One time I got called into the Deputy Director's office; a former Corporate Puke.

He had 2 of us in there plus some lackey and he was eating his lunch in front of us while talking about whatever issue of the moment was his latest thing. I don't care how high and mighty you are, that is just rude behavior.

"Not chewing with your mouth open is another serious peave of mine."

I'm confused. Do you mean to say that chewing with your mouth open is desirable?

"Those are all good and I wish more would abide."

Then you should abide, too.

The corporate puke was a former executive at a major Bank corporation. He brought a bunch of his entourage with him which he proceeded to violate civil service rules to get them appointed to Civil Service classifications. He was a Director appointed position so it was at-will. He got mad at one of the Civil Engineers and brought a complaint against her license. She fought it, won and got him fired for all sorts of illegal stuff he was doing; she was a nice lady but don't mess with her 🙂

Sounds like she is what they call in the Deep South a "Steel Magnolia".

So sweet and nice that butter wouldn't melt in their mouth, but don't you dare cross one. They will hand you parts of your body you definitely don't want separated and do it with a smile on their face.

You NEVER want to hear one say " Well, isn't that just Precious".;-)
