First, I read in the paper that the mother of our local Superintendent of Schools passed away. It turns out that she and I are the same age. Sending your kid off to school is one thing. Having them as the top official in the entire system is quite another.

Second, I will be attending a farm/estate auction today about 6 miles from my home. The family lived only one mile away when I was a youngster so used to go and play with those kids quite a bit. Once they moved, I rarely saw them as that was a different school district. They moved over 50 years ago.

Third, my youngest grandchild started Kindergarten yesterday.

DAMMMM, I'M GETTING OLD.

Well whatever you do, don't clean off any of your patina because it could destroy your value.

Well, I survived the event. Had a great time chatting will all sorts of people I don't see very often. Watched crazy people buy all sorts of stuff most people would simply add to their weekly trash. Many thousands of dollars changed hands. I only contributed $35 by purchasing a metal sign about 15" x 20" in size. Despite being quite rusty it is still very easy to read the message. This was a sign that would have been hung on a fence or put on a board on a corner post along a road somewhere leading to the county seat town and proclaiming "12 MILES TO ALLEN STATE BANK, DEPOSITS GUARANTEED." Unfortunately for depositors, Allen State Bank was one of the many that failed during the Great Depression. Therefore, this sign must be about 80 years old or older. I'm one of the board members of the museum, so someday this sign will end up in their collection. By coincidence, the distance from my house to the site of the Allen State Bank is very close to being exactly 12 miles.

You have to fight back.

Today the missus and I drove the geezermobile up to the lake, visited Firelands Winery, and brought home a case. We are feeling a bit younger already.
