Don't ask me how this happened but I'm going to play the role.

Am I supposed to have a chauffeured car outside the venue (The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco) in case she changes her mind?

Congrats indeed......but you may need the car in case YOU change your mind! Tying the knot in August myself and the car is always an option.

Yes Claire is getting married in October.

This is costing a lot of money. My wife wanted to save by staying down at the SFO airport. I said, NO, absolutely not, we are staying in the Presidio at the Inn at the Presidio and two nights. I don't want to rush down there for my daughter's wedding. Get up Saturday morning, relax, walk, have breakfast (included) then get dressed. The reception is at the Log Cabin (also in the Presidio near the Golden Gate Bridge) 2 minutes from the hotel. I can imbibe generously and not worry about having to drive through SF at midnight trying to get to the airport (past Candlestick Park).

In the worst case, park close to the side door and hand her the keys to your rental and block the door.

Nah ... she's going to go through with it.

But, it's a new custom to get the charge card back - just before you hand her off:-)

Congrats to Claire and the rest of the Karoly family!

In Arkansas, it is a custom, to bring a double barreled shotgun, and shoot a few rounds up into the sky, and tell the groom that he'd better be happy with her for life, because you ain't skeered to go back to prison! Of course, it helps if you have a bit of spilled beer on your shirt, and you really look the part!

AND to stick some of those vinyl bullet holes on the honeymoon wagon, and on your car!

My oldest daughter is getting married, probably in July. It will be a large outdoor wedding, probably 500 people at my father in laws farm. We expect to spend very little.

Congratulations, Dave, Claire & Family. What a joyous event. Don't understand how you all can expect to get off cheaply. I bargained with the groom that, if the marriage didn't last, I would amortize the cost of the wedding and he'd be responsible for paying back the remainder. Seems to have worked well so far... 😉

You're right, FL/GA, those grand babies are a kick!

Wedding will be at a large farm. It will be a very, very, large potluck. It will be a very casual affair, yet serious. We will dance under the moonlight...

I'm down with that, Sam.

That would be great; sticking it to the Wedding-Industrial complex :-).

My parents got married in 1949 in a small Episcopal Church in Marin County (then working class, now very wealthy section of the Bay Area). I think they had 20 friends there then they went out to a coffee shop afterwards for the "reception."

My wife is saying now we are going to feed everyone. We will see how it works out. We will be at least buying a lot of cake and more.

When Bec and I got married, we had planned on the ceremony at our cabin in Anchor Point. It was to be an outdoor affair, kinda potlatch style. Then it started to rain! Really Rain! So we moved it indoors into the cabin, a 16'x20' cabin. 30 people crammed in there, took 2 weeks before all the doors would close right!

Oh, yeah, friend of ours got a marriage commisioner license, so as to perform the ceremony, showed up hammered, with a shotgun! Raised the in-law's eyebrows!

Congrats, Dave (and Claire):good:
