We have an odd situation brewing here in town. One of our town landings, a gift from the Ellis family, is a difficult landing to protect and the erosion has been tough! The Ellis's are threatening to take the landing back now. The town keeps pouring sand, and it keeps blowing away, washing away etc... Revetments to either side may be a contributing factor.
The latest article has a great quote from the Ellis family heir, "We keep mentioning engineering, this is where the best engineering got us. Every time somebody engineers something in front of their property they don't think about what happens next to it. All you've got to do is talk to some old timers here and they'll tell you how to fix it. Engineering is a waste of money"
That's been the practice for a long time here!! When I moved back in '83' nobody was designing roads, just making pretty pictures on a paper without vertical curve data etc...
Engineering was an "as-built" feature...
