reminds me of the passage in Mitchner's "Centennial", where two women -each purporting to be Pancho Villa's widow- each had a skull supposedly belonging to PV. One was much larger than the other. In order to determine who had the real skull of Pancho Villa, the community sought out an elder who had served with Pancho. He determined that the large skull was his skull as a man and the small one was his skull as a youth....

That's a truly beautiful description of the front window of a pawn shop en la frontera....

It is quite the place. A dukes mixture of Pawn Stars and Oddities. You know, I was very skeptical about moving out here in the beginning, but I must say, my perceptions of this place was way off. It is a cool city that is oozing in history and the locals are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The weather is the bees knees and traffic is nothing. The mountains and desert are just icing on the cake. This was a very good move for us.
