I am thinking of trying to sell my motorcycles on EBAY. Does anyone have any experience selling big ticket items on EBAY? I looked up their fee schedule and it appears to be poorly documented. I am wondering what the final fees would be on a 6000 dollar item? What happens if the deal made in the bidding process doesn't go through? Do you still have to pay all the sales fees?

Take a look at this...

http://www.rolbe.com/2009/02/13/ebay-motors-fee-calculator/

1) NEVER bring anyone to your house to look around.
2) Safety-wire BS detector unit in the HIGH position.
3) Deal in CASH or certified funds ONLY.

I have bought and sold a lot of stuff on EBAY. 99.9% successful, but there are creeps out there. If it sounds weird, it is weird, walk away.

Thanks JB for the calculator reference. My only remaining question is: do you have to pay the 125 if the vehicle doesn't sell or if the winner fails to follow through on the sale?

I sold a Topcon VRS system last year on Ebay for $20,000+. The only problem I had was with them freezing my account on Ebay and PayPal until the delivery was made. I kind of got caught off guard by it, but once I talked with someone at PayPal, I understood and it was a great transaction.

That I don't know. Maybe google your exact question? Works most of the time.

I have sold things on Craig's List and purchased things. It is a great site, but they don't have a national audience. From what I have been told they will only let you advertise in your home area. EBAY is national in scope.

How about cycletrader.com National audience and a flat fee with photo. Bought a VFR800 off there couple years ago.

Also try the Flea Market of BMW MOA. That will give you a national audience, although only those who are already riding, or at least sold on BMWs.
