I just felt an earthquake sitting in my desk chair. I thought wow, I drank too much whiskey. Then I saw the hangers in my closet swinging, OK I'm not nuts. Then Bonnie came in said she felt it too.
I'll let you know if California breaks off and falls into the sea.

So......if California breaks off and falls into the ocean.......just how are you planning to tell us about it?
I didn't feel it, but I heard something odd -- maybe the house creaking more than normal, though it seemed much more low-frequency than that. A few minutes later we got a call from a neighbor asking me if we'd felt the earthquake.
When I was growing up in the Bay Area, it seemed like a regular occurrence to have the walls shaking and dishes rattling. Now that I live atop 1500 feet or so of silt in the Sacramento Valley -- sort of like a big bowl of Jello -- we rarely feel any earthquakes.
I felt my first earthquake in Tacoma around 2001. I was in the second story of our office building and I can honestly say that it scared the $h%t out of me.
Nothing like one of those to help remind you small you are.

I'm on the North American plate. SF and LA are moving north because they are on the Pacific plate.
I lived in Mammoth Lakes during the earthquakes of the early 1980s. Those were of volcanic origin and shook violently. Even a 2 or 3 was impressive. This one felt more like sea sickness.
