For the dog people on the forum, our lab-husky mix was walking in the back yard when this happen. I was there when it happen, he stepped the wrong way.

Last Wednesday he was operated on. They found a complete tear of the cranial cruciate ligament and a caudal medial meniscal tear both were resected.

An extracapsular lateral suture technique was performed.

Also the dog is 65lbs. and is the alpha male of the four legged pack, of a 80lb. male chocolate lab and a 90lb. male yellow lab. When he came through the door at home from the vet's he looked at them and grunted at them and they have given him no problem.

I am finding ACL tears are more common than I thought. That being said, what do I need to know besides what the vet told us?

Aww... I can't help you in what else you need to know, but I can send you and your doggy a big hug. I hope he heals up well and fast. 😀

My lab had the same surgery two years ago. Followed vets advice and now I have a happy duck hunting dog. Just be careful on recovery the other leg may be prone to the problem if pushed too fast.
