A week ago, Nevada played their hearts out and beat Boise State. In doing so, they forfeited millions of potential BCS bowl dollars, not only for their conference but for their own school.
Today, both Auburn and Oregon won their final regular season games thus ensuring themselves a place in the BCS National Championship game. Because of those game outcomes, the losing teams in each case (Oregon State and South Carolina) gained millions of dollars in revenue from the BCS, both for their conferences and themselves, which if they had pulled off upsets they would not otherwise have access to. Auburn and Oregon are both beatable teams (and we'll find out in January which one is more so).
Not saying that the Beavers or the Gamecocks intentionally tanked those games, in fact I am quite sure they did not (can you imagine Spurrier tanking a game?!). However, the BCS system has now established the conditions such that sometime in the future it is conceivable that a team could intentionally lose a late season game or conference championship game against a BCS bowl contender in order to get a paycheck from the BCS.
Since we all know that when it comes down to the short strokes it's truly All About The Money (and don't think it isn't), under the current system, I would predict that this will happen at some point in the future. Probably sooner rather than later.
What d'ya reckon?

I think you're a bit off base there. The losing team didn't gain anything for their conferences, because there was going to be a SEC and PAC10 team in the BCS bowls regardless, and the payout for BCS bowls is always the same, regardless of whether or not it's the BCSNCG. And likewise, Nevada didn't cost their conference anything, either, as I'm willing to bet BSU makes it into a BCS bowl, anyway. The BCS created a fifth bowl for the purpose of accomidating a non-BSC school, and I'm sure that will be BSU this year.
PSEUDO ?
The BCS Championship game plays triple the other bowls. Since the winner is declared the National Champ I think an extra $million is a big enough kicker. The extra profit from the championship game should go to all teams.

Some More BCS Garbage
Connecticut at 8-4 gets a big BCS payday and 11-1 Michigan State gets diddly.
Maybe they can play 11-1 Boise State in the Rose Bowl II on January 3rd. Just split the gate receipts.
Hey wait, nobody wants 11-1 Stanford to come to their bowl game. I bet they can draw more fans than Connecticut can.

Some More BCS Garbage
Paul,
You underestimate the CT fan..
PSEUDO ?
No, it doesn't. All the BCS Bowls pay the same.
Rose Bowl - Big 10 Champ v Pac-10 Champ - ABC - $17 million
Orange Bowl - ACC Champ v BCS at large - FOX - $17 million
Sugar Bowl - BCS @ large vs BCS @ large - FOX - $17 million
Fiesta Bowl - Big 12 Champ v BCS - FOX - $17 million
BCS Championship Bowl - BCS #1 v BCS #2 - FOX $17 million
PSEUDO, I missed That ?
Previous years it was like $6 vs $18.

Boise State Wins The 2010 Bad Timing Award
Boise State is leaving a conference with 3 schools in the Top 25 for a conference with 2 schools in the Top 25 and both those schools are leaving said conference for conferences with an automatic BCS bid. Did the thought of playing Boise every year scare them?
