All I remember is that some models have peak signal, over the monument. Some have nulling over the monument. I think nulling was the GA-52b model. Null over peak signal was supposed to provide more pinpoint accuracy.?ÿ

But, there are more models.

GA 52c

GA 52x

Maybe more.

Has anybody knowledge of the differences models, and characteristics?

2 of mine are down. Right now.

Thank you,

Nate

These fancy Fluxgate Magnetometers all work in the same principle. The Box on the stick original version GA_52... will do everything you want for?ÿ the price.

The fancier versions are better for UXO work and pin pointing smaller items, and have readouts for signal strength etc.

?ÿ

If you have a supply house close by, mask up and see if they have a few models to play with.

I find each unit has its own sensitivity and sound even when comparing identical models.

I got spoiled amd schooled by some EOD Tech's. The stuff they get is German, unavailable to public and amazing.

I was able to locate (after some training) pieces of brass about the size of a BB in a foot of soil.

Yeah DMS330

I think that is a QC issue with the parts they use and seems kinda sad they don't hold higher tolerances. My $0.02

Older units in good condition seem to work better.

@jitterboogie

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are finding brass, that would be a completely different instrument than what we used to locate ferrous (only ferrous) items.

@dmyhill

Entirely. I was just mentioning the training I got with the Bomb seekers. They like the GA52s.

Even get the little forearm mounty thingy for most of rhe day usage.

It seems .. and I hope I'm remembering this right, the earlier models came with a potentiometer for your discrimination, which somehow changed later to a five-pole switch. I have no idea if this is the answer.

I have been using a GA72 for over two decades. The polarity display has saved more time than I can count by weeding out ferrous objects that are not pipes, rebar or nails.

They are a bit more than the GA52 but worth it in my opinion.

A few years ago there was talk of a model that could pinpoint a half inch rebar 18 feet down. I suspect a small group of surveyoes bought tht patenr and buried it...
