At least it's catchy.

So really then...

> what is the difference between the people described in this thread and 'greedy' CEO'S?

The problem in America these days is if you have a job and are relatively successful you consider yourself "Morally Superior". If you are unemployed and are financially down on your luck you are "Immoral" (especially if you sport a tattoo).

Let's remember this is only an anecdotal story and nothing more. I hate it when these things turn into blanket indictments of a segment of the population.

I agree. I like the last several threads. Although it is pathetic how some people take advantage of the system, I suspect that what one CEO takes in, would account for a large chunk (if not all) of those who rip off the welfare system. Why aren't we more outraged about the big-time thieves?

(by the way, I think the point about tatoos wasn't that people have them, it was that people who can't afford them have them. What isn't taken into account might be that some of those guys got their tatoos when they were better off financially.) I'm not some big religious fanatic, but I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of a welfare recipient, whether they are abusing the system or not; I say "there, but for the grace of God, go I". I'm glad I have a job and can pay my mortgage payments and buy my meals.

Lets not get tooo stereotypical. Plenty of people with tatoos work, and I dont know any tatoo artists that will work for food stamps.

You missed my point-my bich is not about tattoos, (although I just don't get that whole ritual self-mutilation thing-tattoos, piercings, branding, whatever) it's about people who can afford a couple grand (or more) in ink and the payments on a $35K pick-up eating steak & seafood on the taxpayer's dime.

Time for me to chime in; I work at a convenience store full time while going to school, this location is at the edge of a less than desirable neighborhood. Food stamp cards get reloaded on the 10th, on the overnight shift we have 2 people work because it is so busy. No kidding, we have had people spend over 80 dollars on soda, candy, and other junk food and pay for them with dood stamps, then whip out the cash and buy some Newport menthols (expensive cigs) and of course the obligatory malt beverages with high alcohol content. These people (abusers) will stand around and wait for midnight for the money to be on the cards, and within a week most of the money is gone and they are back shoplifting for the rest of the month.

Sure, there are certainly needy folks and I have no issues when they buy milk or bread or some other real food, but when you give it to your kids to use as a free candy card then you need to go to hell.
*rant off*

They use to have all those restrictions in the law, but Congress decided it was much more efficient and saved the taxpayer tons of money to just issue the cards. Beer is definitely a food and an necessity.

I should clarify, the beer cannot be purchased with food stamps, that's what the cash they save is for!

Just as a statement of fact, the background check and lack of income requirements for welfare are quite strict. I have tenants who have lost their jobs, have no money, have lost everything, and still don't quality for assistance.

Certainly, some people will sell a little MJ, or do a little work under the table for peanuts, and have the appearance of having money, but the truth of the mater is that you have to be stark poor to get welfare.

All these stories in this post are anecdotal, but if you do an in depth study of the very same people, you will find that they are piss poor. Sure, someone is buying steak, but how many times during the year do they eat steak? Was this a special occasion like someone's birthday or something like that? The long and short of it is that most welfare goes to the disabled and to women with dependent children.

Certainly some people are cheats, but by and large they are not.

Yes, sad to say, there are lots of people here that get "food stamps". And if one have a broad social circle, or know many young people, one might even know some of them.

But it's pretty obvious (to me) if you're in the checkout line at Costco that most of the people using EBT cards are buying bulk items like rice, canned goods, etc. These people are actually poor, and most are trying to feed themselves or their families on what is a very limited amount of money per month. And, despite the stories, most of them are fully aware that if they buy steaks and lobsters the first week, there's no milk or bread the last week.

But, nothing new here. It's always "us and "them", and "them" are total failures in every way, and, "us" aren't. Three years after the banks caused the collapse of the housing market, trashed our retirement plans, and got bailed out for their efforts, with added bonuses, and we're still talking about tatoos, strip steaks and monster trucks...

If they're richer than you then they're white-collar criminals, because no one can make that kind of money doing an honest day's work; and if they're poorer, they obviously commit blue-collar crimes 'cause they're too "stoopid" to get a job.
