Our itinerate surveyor/photographer Daryl Moistner has some cool photo editing tutorials on his web site.

I finally got a chance to follow his instructions on how to make an image jump out of a frame by following the easy instructions he put together here.

I made this photo:

Into this:

This was a quick test of the method and with some work it will come out a bit more believable and refined (notice no boat shadow in photo 2). I only have a limited edition copy of photoshop 4 which came with a scanner I got years ago so I couldn’t find a way to insert a frame around the background photo, but all in all it was pretty easy to do. Thanks Daryl, my friend in the photo thinks I’m some sort of sorcerer, rather than the blatant plagiarizer that I am…

Rick, we were camped at Elk, but went over to Hosmer Lake on Saturday to paddle to the inlet and water falls on Quinn Creek.

If you are the Ore. PLS R. Jones from Sweet Home, you might get a kick out of this. There is a place by Devil's lake called Satan's Gardens that has old Indian pictographs, along with circa 1950s and 1960s rock carvings from when they used to have a USFS campground there. I took some photos this weekend and one of them was by a guy, last name of Neitling, from Sweet Home:

Yes that me. I'm heading over to Bend tonight to the inlaws, then going on a 50± mile hike along the PCT between Hwy 58 & Elk lake for the long weekend.

I need to make it to those pictographs sometime. Thanks for the pictures.

P.S. I google Mike F. Neitling, he was born in 1905, and died in 1979. Buried in Stayton.
