As our XP computers go down we are having to replace them with Win7 OS machines. This is a problem since our printers, copiers and plotters are all older and I am finding out that there are usually no drivers for them that work with Win7. This is particularly true with our HP 750C+ plotters.

At the same time, our copiers have started to go down and will likely need to be replaced since the cost of constant repair is getting to be too high.

We have gotten by for years with two plotters (1 vellum, 1 mylar), one large format (24" & 36") copier and 1 multi-function printer copier for our normal 8.5"x11" to 11"x17" needs. I use a lot of 11x17 these days as my eyes get older! These are aside from several smaller 8x11 personal color laser printers of varying makes.

I would like to replace the 4 machines with at most 2 muti-function ones. 1 for the 11x17 and below that scans, prints and copies and is networkable with Win7. And 1 large format for scanning, printing and copying up to 36" docs, so it should have at least 2 rolls (and 1 tray that would fit 11x17 would be ideal). Color would be nice, but we don't really need it.

Any recommendations? We will probably try and by off-lease stuff unless the price is really, really good.

Brother MFC-6490CW Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer

bought one a year or so ago on Amazon for $150, now they go for $240 for some reason.
Ink is dirt cheap, and the quality is good.
a bit old tech (2008) but the wireless is sweet and the doc feeder works very well.
I scan a lot, heavy copy letter and legal size jobs still go out.
I wish I had a laser that was faster, but the price is right.

There are drivers available for these older HP plotters. Usually what you have to do is substitute the XP 64 bit drivers, but they should work for you.

Check this link for info.

I have to second Peter's recommendation. I just bought a refurbished one for $99 from Staples. It is great.

Do a search on here on this board, and there were some links to Supermedia Store for an unbelievable deal on the ink cartridges for this printer.

I use the auto document feeder for both copying and scanning, and it will scan up to 11x17 as well. I am very pleased.

If all else fails, WinLine Drivers will do what you need. It is a little on the pricy side at $199, but will have drivers for a lot of machines. I bought it to enable me to connect my 450C plotter to my Windows 7 computer. Works like a charm.

Also, last August I bought an HP 7500A Wide Format All-in-One unit when HP had them on sale for $149.00. I am well satisfied with the unit and am still using the ink cartridges that came with it, but I have other printers I use so that has some bearing on the ink useage. It will handle 13"x19" size media. I have this hooked up wireless to my Windows XP & the Windows 7 computers.

You need to take a look at the Canon Imagerunner multifunction copiers.
