The umpiring was TERRIBLE and the fans were terrible, but congratulations to the Cards anyway. I hope they can go all the way.

boy, andy ...are you a good sport or what...good on you!
tough break..
I can't see the IF call at all. The LF was not in position to play the ball and the SS was running away from the infiled. very very bad call and a game changer.
My octogenarian FIL who is a lifelong Braves fan would have been on the field choking the ump...maybe 😉

I don't follow NL closely but one has to like these Nats with Dave Johnson at the helm.

I don't get crazily excited about many things but I do about my Cards!! :-$ :bye:

I figured last night was going to be one of their hardest games they would have to play because the Braves have whipped their butts all year. :-/

I was staying also staying silent on here because of obvious reasons... B-)

But as Chipper Jones put it last night....

"That one play didn't cost us the game. Three errors cost us the game," he said. "We just dug ourselves too big a hole."

After that first call the umps made when Lohse striked out the batter but the time out was called as the ball was being thrown, and then the Braves hitter got the next one for the home run, I knew we were in for one of those "games." :-O

Alas, it is not the Cardinals nor the Braves fault at what the umpires decide to do. People are blaming the Cards and the ump that called that fly ball as "playing favorites" but no one seems to remember that is the same ump that in 1998, threw Mark McGwire out of a game in front of 47,627 fans in St. Louis during the first inning for arguing a called third strike. 😐

Regardless, there was NO reason for ANY fan to react how they did. Fortunately the Braves president has class and acknowledged this situation.

Braves president John Schuerholz apologized for the actions of the crowd, saying a "small group of those fans acted in a manner that was uncharacteristic and unacceptable."

You would NEVER see true Cardinal fans do this. They are voted the #1 good sport fans in baseball, for with good reason. Do any of you remember what the fans did when Boston swept the Cards at Busch in the 2004 World Series?? This girl does.

Here's another one that some Brave fans may have forgotten about...This is a true class act from Cardinal players and fans alike. ?

It's still going to be a hard road, but I am of course rooting for my boys to go all the way!! If they do, Great!!!!!!!! I'll be making an Italian feast and inviting all of my friends over to celebrate!! IF they don't, I will still be proud of them for making it as far as they have. For ANY team to make it this far is a wonderful achievement, IMHO.

I'm also cheering on the Giants because...I just happen to be good friends with the owners of their farm team and was invited to hang out with them and the team next March down in Arizona. 😀 B-)

Big kudos to your Cards (although my wife would put me on the couch for the next week if she read this), one of the more bizarre games I've ever seen due soley to the umps.

The whole floating strike zone thing really confused me, but they were doing dirt to St. Louis just as much as the Bravos, so no favoritism involved. The better team did win, and now take it ALL. THE. WAY!!!

Exactly. I think the umps didn't get all their sleep the night before or something...:-|

I hope they can go all the way!!! Everyone says they don't deserve it, cant do it, give it up they already won last year, let someone else win, blah blah...but...I could care less and *I* think 2x in a row would be freaking AWESOME!!!

I have to ditto Andy on this. I saw the game. The umping was horrible. So was the Bravos defense. I wasn't believeing to see Chipper throw that ball in the outfield on a seemingly regular play. The fans reaction on the blown call blew me away. Had I not seen it I wouldn't have believed it. Not from Braves fans anyway. Certainly not Cards either. I was born in Cards country (deep south IL) and have transplanted to Braves country. If one isn't going to go to series I want the other to go.

As to the fans reaction, I was shocked, and somewhat embarresed. I might expect that from other cities fans. But, not here. I've probably been to a dozen Cards games and 50 or so Braves games and have never seen the like.

As a kid, Lou Brock (St. L short stop) was my sports hero ... followed by Bob Gibson and later Ozzie Smith. At my first game in person with my grandparents in the mid-late 60s, we saw Lou break the base stealing record. That was at the first Busch stadium of course.

Lou Brock was an OFer.
He mostly played LF which is one of the hardest positions to play on the diamond, imo.
The ball can make spome hellacious arcs on line drives by rh and lh hitters. A hard hit line drive over your head is almost uncatchable for the average LF.
I remember in the St Louis airport in the early 80s and they were selling the mini umbrella beanie that Lou Brock invented. He said that he did like being in the hot sun in the outfield in Spring training.

Anyway, it looks like a some good post season play for all involved.

OZZIE IS MY FAVORITE PLAYER, EVER.
I cherish his autographs he gave me some many years ago on that hot summer day in the late 1980's. :-$

That hat is cute!!! I didn't know he invented it!! B-)

My next big trip is St. Louis. I know I am going to lose it as soon as we land and I see Cardinal ANYTHING....I will be shedding tears of joy!!

I've been waiting for 30 years to get to go to a home game at Busch; my childhood dream; and now my adult dream. I don't get excited about much but I do about my Cardinals. (in case you guys have not figured this out yet...;-) )
