I've recently reestablished contact with an old friend, among other things, this came up in conversation:
"That's good stuff, Paul. My father nearly went crazy when he found out he'd given away an acre of land he didn't understand the boundaries of. That was 20 years ago, and he was obsessed about it for the last years of his life, sadly. Surveyors are important people in my book!"

Good judgement comes with experience, and many experiences come from bad judgements.
Not sure who said it first, but it's true.
