A friend of ours cooked a traditional Colombian dinner for us last night.

Chicharrón - pork skin
chuletas - pork chops
chorizo - pork sausage

patacones - fried green (unripe) plantains
maduros - fried ripe plantains
fresh avocados

aroz - rice
frijoles - pinto beans

and several kinds of homemade sauces

I may never be the same. It was some of the best food I have ever eaten. Way too much fried food but man it was good.

I've never cared very much for chorizo.

Being partially of Acadian decent, I have to at least try almost everything once, some things more than once, but once I went to far and tried a piece of pickled pig lips.

One of the worst food mistakes I have ever made, which ended up lodging a small piece between two of my back teeth.
Every time I moved my tongue I would get a taste of it and my brain was sending feverish signals to my tongue to try and get that out of there.

Flossing is not generally a celebrated memory, but that one was.

You'll notice the picture doesn't have "good" written on the lips 😉

When I was a youngster this used to be a Sinclair gas station that I believe had the same jar of pickled pig lips on the counter for a dozen years.

the chicarrones is too much for me when they leave parts of the meat on there. Pork Rhines are one thing, chicharrones around here is something else.

The rest of what you names, a staple in the Morgan household. While I'm blond haired and blue eyed, I could have been born hispanic and my stomach would have never known the difference.

🙂

Here's the perfect tune to accompany such a fine dinner.
