Some friends of our went down to Arizona this last week to visit kin folk in Tucson and also take in some spring training baseball games in Phoenix.
This blew them away. They went to a Chicago cubs game (I guess the cubs spring training is HUGE in Phoenix) and were milling around outside the gates trying to figure what tickets to buy. An older guy dressed up in a full throttle Cubs uniform walks up and starts chatting them up. They’re thinking “what kind of scam is this guy trying to pull on us?”. Turns out he wants to give the four of them free tickets. His family, in honor of their adult son who died in 2002, decided to honor the boy’s life by giving Cubs tickets to families that come to spring training. They all got fairly choked up and asked if they could donate money to a charity or something since the guy wouldn’t take any money. He said no, just have fun watching the game and if they enjoyed themselves, write something about the game on the website they’ve set up. They call the endeavor Steve’s Dream.
Now that is neat. 🙂 I read his webpage. Steve's family sounds like wonderful, giving people. Everyone should do a little something in their lifetime that passes on the kindness. 🙂
