Where's Angel? Still celebrating?

Is she still in Saint Louis? If so it must be awesome.

My brother reminded me they have won half of the NL Central championships in this century. What impressed him that it is now such a young team. BTW, don't talk to him about the Rams.

I guess we [the Braves] will be seeing them in the playoffs soon.
When I moved down here [the South] in '83 the Cards had just whooped the Braves in the playoffs then. Having just came from Cards-country in south-central Il. and still a big red-bird fan, I was not exactly what I would call a very popular person when watching the games with my new found friends here. I will say I didn't mind at all being away from the acrid rivalry between the Cards and Cubs. During my recent trip back home, I could easily see that rivalry is very much alive and well. I don't miss that hatred one little bit, thank you.
After being in the deep-South for just over 30 years I can now proclaim being an ardent Braves fan without fear of being excoriated for it. I will happily take the worst Cards or Braves fan over any die-hard Cub fan any day of the week.

Actually...

The Cubs fans were very nice Friday night. I was sitting by a Cub fan and when we won, people were very kind to him, told him sorry, gave him a hug, etc... And he was congratulating other fans, shaking their hands, etc... I was pleased to see this!! 😀

I also saw many other Cub fans going through the stadium, Hi^5ing Cardinal fans. That is classy. :-$

Apparently the rivalry between the Cards and Cubs now is not like it use to be...the Cards NEW rivalry is the Reds. There were some Reds fans outside Busch on Monday and Tuesday night trying to heckle Cardinals and Nationals fans. Fortunately, security shooed them off. B-)

I'm here having the time of my LIFE!!! This has been the best trip ever!!! SOooooo many good, wonderful things have happened while I have been here, I can't keep up with it all!!! I am SO LUCKY AND BLESSED!!! I've been wanting to blog about it daily, but I come back to the hotel, exhausted from running the streets all day & night!! A good exhaustion, though. 😀

Oh what I would give to be here for the playoff games and the world series!!! :woot:

All I've seen since we've been here and at the Cardinals-Cubs game the other night is friendly rivalry. There were Cubs fans at the game and there was no heckling or anything like that. Yes, there are shirts around town like this:

Completely
Useless

September

But it's all in fun and you can tell that the fans all get along just fine. I've not been to a Cubs-Cardinals game in Chicago though, so I can't speak for them.

Well perhaps I've been wrong about all that. It sure wasn't that way when I was growing up. During college days at Eastern IL U. in Charleston (about 30 miles north of Effingham) the student population was probably around 90% coming from up around the Chicago area and us semi-local types were constantly mocked for being hicks and such. My roommates often would make fun of me to my face. If it was being done in a friendly way, it sure didn't come across that way.

I wasn't aware of the Reds rivalry these days. Ironically, my first game in person was at the old Bush stadium with the Reds. I saw Lou Brock get the stolen base record at his first at-bat in the game. Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Bob Gibson and the like were all there. That was probably about 45 years ago. Many, many years later I had the chance to go to a Reds tryout camp (again, just north of Effingham). I made it about half-way there before chickening out and going back home and decided I'd be better off just going to college instead. Probably much more to the liking of my parents. The odds are not in the favor of those trying to make it to the big show.

Angel, I think the playoffs home-field advantage is for the Braves here at Turner Field. A buddy explained to me how they figure that last night but I don't remember. Seems like the Cards and Braves meet in the playoffs more often than any other pairing.

Glad you guys are having fun.
How was the time in Effingham? I was going to invite my Uncle Greg to meet with you all. He's some big-wig in the IDOT district there and works out of the Effingham office. Alas, he and Uncle Jim were having a big lake-house party and wouldn't have made it. Wish I could have been there for both. They are only about 40 or 50 miles apart. Greg makes that drive every working day, so it wouldn't have been a big deal at all.

Safe travels!!
E
