Cecil Newtons checkbook found!
Ha!
Cam Newton
Our local sports radio station, which is aired in three other cities in Alabama, has talked about NOTHING but Cam Newton since that story became public. Even as an Alabama fan, I am sick of hearing about it. At least, there has been little talk about Alabama's slide into mediocrity.

There's some good photoshops out there:
LSUFreak is well known on college message boards ...
Who?
Who the hell is Cam Newton?

So what is the general consensus? Do they feel it actually happened, that Cam's father agreed to it, or that Cam knew anything about it?
As far as what I've read, it is an allegation about a non event.
I don't think two losses to two tough teams constitutes a slide into mediocrity. Believe me, none of the Auburn fans I've talked to think for one minute it is going to be anything except all out warfare.

Once this story broke then it seemed to be pile on day for Newton. Cheating on tests, stolen laptop and pay for play.
Cheating on papers- Easy to prove and it seems true but that was not at Auburn.
Stolen Laptop- Unproven but why would anyone throw a new laptop out a window just because the cops knocked on your door. Suspicious but did they charge him with anything?
Pay for Play- I see no proof of this at this point. Just innuendo's and none that really point to Cam. They are making a big deal out of him saying "It will take more than a scholarship to get me". That could infer the weather, the coach, the girls and about a dozen more things that a young man might be considering besides just the academic side.
Let them investigate and then we will have a better idea if Cam OR his dad was involved in some way in a pay to play scheme. At this point it's unfounded to me.
Who?
Auburn's superstar quarterback.
Was that a scene from "The Sting"?
'It's a Wonderful Life'.

Cam didn't steal the laptop, but he knew it was stolen when he bought it. He had three charges against him. He didn't plead innocent, he did some kind of deferred prosecution / community service thing that lead to the charges being dropped.
As for the pay for play ... his father Cecil admitted to asking MSU for money, and there are supposedly recorded phone calls of the same. That doesn't prove any money changed hands, but just the act of asking for money is an NCAA violation that can make Cam ineligible, and cause Auburn to forfeit their season, at the NCAA's discretion.
On a side note, I think MSU is in as much (or more) trouble than Auburn. They are neck deep in this, too.
Who?
P.L., I the consensus is that as far as anyone knows now, Auburn is in the clear. However, Newton's father did ask for money to sign with Mississippi State.
As to my remark about Alabama, they really haven't. They have just been broght down to Earth. Irionically, I am now getting ready to go to Tuscaloosa to see the Tide play the suprisingly good Bulldogs.
Big E, you must not pay attention to college football or watch ESPN.

Of course, expect no less out of the NCAA, especially as long as Pat Dye remains part of Auburn's program.
Sadly, he is the king of the good ol boy network at Auburn, and will be until he dies.
I work with three guys who played for Dye, two of whom were there when Bowden took over. One of them confided Bowden was three times the coach Dye was, and then said he would deny it if I ever repeated that he said it.

Bobby Bowden has taken the opposite approach from Pat Dye upon retirement. He said he would stay away from Florida State because he feels he would be a distraction to the coaching staff. I'm sure he got that idea from Terry's first hand experience with Dye.
