- Upon entering a little country store, a stranger noticed a sign reading, ??Danger! Beware of Dog? posted on the glass door.
Inside, he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor besides the cash register.
He asked the store manager, ??Is that the dog folks are supposed to beware of??
??Yep, that??s him,? he replied.
The stranger couldn??t help but be amused. ??That certainly doesn??t look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post that sign??
??Because,? the owner replied, ??before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him.?
I just got back from a small survey out in the sticks and all of the dogs were laid out in the sun and they would raise their head to look at me and that was all they were good for today and of course there were the beware of dog sign.
That sounds like my "Watch Dog".?ÿ She'll watch you come in, watch you while you're here and watch you leave.?ÿ That's about it.
Of course the other dog will bark her head off as soon as she hears the car door close.

?ÿ
I was WAY out in the sticks last week.?ÿ Lots of closed sections and some spots that required a 5 to 7 mile trip (and a 1/2 mile hike) to shoot a quarter corner and it's adjacent section corner.?ÿ A couple of rough section line "roads" are named Flat Armadillo Rd. and End of the Earth Rd.?ÿ
No humans accosted me, but there were two dogs; an Australian Cattle dog and an old yellow cur, that yapped it up at me at the north quarter corner.?ÿ I then hopped in the truck and drove 5 miles in a loop and walked in to the center of section.?ÿ Guess who met me at the C/4??ÿ They were still yapping it up.
I walked back out with them following me...still raising hell from a distance.?ÿ I then had to drive about 7 miles back around to get the south quarter corner.?ÿ I was lucky. I could drive to this one as it was in the middle of a two-lane State Highway.?ÿ Guess who met me there??ÿ And I swear 'fore God they were at the corner post when I drove up.?ÿ They had beat me there.?ÿ?ÿI got to thinking these dogs might be good at surveying because they sure knew where to show up.
A lunch of "truck-stop-fried-chicken" had been previously nabbed on the way out there.?ÿ I sat under a shade tree near the C/4 and chowed down with my two buddies happily crunchin' on the bones.?ÿ They didn't bark at me so much after I fed them.
Nothing beats surveying with good company. 😉
