The front loader washing machine door boot spring clamp broke.
site search, 10 minutes later I found Part Number: AP3883931

Of course it's easy when you know that the item is called a " front loader washing machine door boot spring clamp", rather than the "thingamayjiggy that holds the door shut."

hahaha
I don't know squat about these machines.
I entered the make and model of the machine, it displayed diagrams, I found that thingie in the picture, selected it and then ordered it.
BTW: 10 minutes later upon reading the order confirmation email I discovered I typoed the Model Number. I sent email explaining my error (7pm Pacific time). I figured I would need to phone them dead early this morning when they opened (Eastern time). Surprisingly I got a response a few minutes later. They said I needed to cancel the order and place a new order for the Correct Part (it is $5 cheaper!). Done. Excellent customer service.
I have ordered parts for washer, dryer, microwave, and refrigerator from them.?ÿ Always got the right part at reasonable price.?ÿ
Ordering the part yourself sure beats what the repairman visit costs to change a $15 part.
I found a part for my water heater from a local wholesale parts house.?ÿ Call their North Highlands location (not far from us), yes we have it, in Elk Grove.?ÿ Fine drive all the way down to Elk Grove, it's their main huge warehouse.?ÿ Go to counter, tell the guy, he picks up phone dials North Highlands, hands me the phone and says to me, "have him order it for you will call." Fine okay I do that hand the phone back then the guy disappears into the warehouse for 15 minutes (I figure maybe I was the last straw and he had sneaked into his car and quit) and he finally returns with the part I need.?ÿ Cheaper than ordering from an on-line place (I checked).
I shop local whenever possible, always.
In this case the local shops did not have the obscure little part in stock. My wife (she loves to shop) drove around and phoned aroun and asked. They all suggested we go up to San Diego and look, or let them order it. Turns out they would do the exact same thing I did (so that would not fit my desire to shop local), and it would add time and cost...
One appliance tech we have used before said hunting for stuff in San Diego is fruitless, he says they just throw the appliance away (or donate to charity) and buy a new one... and he added "I get those thrown away machines, repair them, and sell them here".
such is life
PS: we get great bargains at the Segundos here (second hand stores), it all comes via Good Will or the like
