Anybody use an IPad for this?

Daughter is doing an internship with a building contractor as an inspector on some new dorm buildings at UK. They gave her an IPad with all the drawings on it so all she has to do is open up a drawing for whatever she's looking for (outlets, fixtures, etc.) check if it's good, if not she can immediately email it to the responsible party for correction. Got me to thinking, what about putting all the plan sheets I carry in the truck on an IPad? I've usually got about a dozen different jobs going at the same time in various states of completion, with a stack of half size drawings in the back seat of the truck. After a couple of years back there, they can get pretty ragged from getting dragged in and out in the rain (sometimes) and the wind. Not really familiar with the IPads, not sure how much memory would be needed, but we get nearly all our plans in PDF, and we have a scanner for those that are not. Seems like it would be pretty handy to just open up whatever drawing on whatever job on the screen. Anybody doing anything like that?

carlson was showing off an awesome app that had a 3-d model, you could hold it up and augmented reality showed the finished product.

Permitting in the Town of Nantucket is awesome. Every board member has an iPad and all the plans. Plus, they come prepared (most of the board I go before have all the information but will not look at it until the meeting)

I bought SWMBO an i-pad mini 64gb. Seems to have plenty of memory and you can get a solar powered, bluetooth keyboard for them. I think I would rather have the full size of the regular i-pad, tho', my peepers aint what they used to be!!

I haven't done that but I don't know why you couldn't.

Get plenty of memory.

Zooming and panning is pretty nice on the iPad; like looking at photos on a smartphone.

The iPad is not a computer in the sense that it does file systems. I'm not sure how to put files onto it. I have gotten photos off of it.

We do as well as alot of other big construction companies. We have an RFC set on the server and a person whose responsibility it is to keep it updated. We sync our Ipads with PDF Expert everyday so that we get any changes that may occur. I get notifications on any changes so I have my own personal set of RFC's that I keep on dropbox. I keep them grouped differently than the ones on the server because they load faster.

My eyes are getting old also but have not had any problems that I couldnt zoom in on.
