They are saying tha twe are okay in Juneau, we are quite a way inland, but on the intercoastal waterway, so we wiil just have to keep an eye on things. Our placeis about 100 feet above mean sea level and this sounds like a small tsunami.

"the wave appeared to be a straight wall of water possibly 100 feet high, extending from shore to shore. The wave was breaking as it came around the north side of the island, but on the south side it had a smooth, even crest. As it approached the Edrie the wave front appeared very steep, and 50 to 75 feet high. No lowering or other disturbance of the water around the boat, other than vibration due to the earthquake, was noticed before the wave arrived. The anchor chain snapped as the boat rose with the wave"

Good grief.

1964, 4 days before my 4th B'day, I watched the big one hit Kodiak. One minute there was a town, then rubble.

Working cows at Olex on Willow Creek when that 64 earthquake happened. Those cows were usually not hard to handle and work in a corral but not that day, all acted wild. Got in that night and found out what those cows knew and we didn't. Trolled for King Salmon in Southeast Alaska in 65, that water went high in 64, especially in some inlets. Talked to a skipper who said his boat went up about 200 feet twice with no damage, he was anchored in one of those inlets, the high water mark was well marked. Tied up in Sitka, the town had installed an announcing system to warn the residents if there were any earthquakes that could trigger another tidal wave and it was used to warn the people while we were there, all dropped everything and went for the hills, we went to sea, the reactions of the people made a bigger impression on me than the high water marks had done. No wave developed that time.
