I picked up some of these yesterday to use in my 1911 when I am out looking for WWII relics on the western gunnery ranges. The .22 caliber birdshot often doesn't do the job on a large rattlesnake, so decided to try these. They are a bit pricey at $15 for a package of 10, or $1.50 apiece.

.45 ACP in a 1911, What Could Be Better ?

Price is secondary, after all, you are not going to rip off 100 rounds in 1 afternoon.

A man deserves a treat once in a while.

If it is a special value gun, slip in a replacement barrel.

PC, if you are referring to possible damage to the rifling in the barrel, most experts agree that the lead shot will not damage the hardened steel inside of a barrel or mess up the rifling. The Taurus "Judge" is a good example of a gun manufacturer specifically making a handgun with a rifled barrel to be used with .410 shotgun shells. One forum I read said the copper cased bullets will do more harm to a barrel over time than lead pellets. Either way, I doubt I will ever put more than 20 rounds through my .45 with the shotshell loads. I suppose in a rare occurrence a wad could get stuck in the rifling and then the next round fired could hit the stuck wad.

I have my grandfather's Peters Crackshot. He used it solely with ratshot.

The barrel has become smooth inside with no grooving visible. Gunsmith said it is too late to remove the lead buildup without harming the barrel.

Clean often to remove any residue left behind or devote a barrel to the ratshot.

Lead buildup? More like old style shot literally chewing up the rifling lands and grooves.

If you experience any significant leading, just get one of the electrolysis cleaning kits that use rubber plugs for both ends of the field-stripped barrel and that connect to a battery power source (or DC transformer - extra cost) overnight. Takes out 100% of the lead & copper with zero damage to the barrel. Be sure to REALLY oil the bore afterwards !!!

It will not harm your barrel whatsoever.

Do they have enough power to reload a semi-auto, I have .22 bird shot and it would not reload the Remington Nylon .22 semi I had. Wish I still had it.

As for lead shot, that is now illegal in CA and I am sure the cancer will spread.
