This is the year that the cicadas come around on their 17-year cycle, and they are out in force in this part of the world. A few days ago I noticed they were everywhere, I was even finding them on my clothes. This morning when I went outside I could hear the low hum that comes from millions of them in the trees.
Apparently, you don't have to even pack a lunch:
(from Wikipedia)
- Many people around the world regularly eat cicadas. They are known to have been eaten in Ancient Greece as well as China, Malaysia, Burma, Latin America, and the Congo.[6] Female cicadas are prized for being meatier.[6] Shells of cicadas are employed in the traditional medicines of China.[7]
You can have my share, thanks..
Trying to quit..probably won't be needing them. :pinch:
Well I guess when they start to hatch our here it will be time to gross the kids out again with my fine cooking skills.
Probably will roast them in a skillet with olive oil. Will cook them with the shells, them peel the shell off after I am done cooking.
I will probably not cook them with a lot of seasoning until I get a feel for how they would taste.
I'm truly amazed. Someone from Louisiana described a recipe that did NOT start with "prepare a roux..." 😉
