So,
The beer summit went down tonight.
It was awesome.
It seems the problem was in the paralegal using my order form. She was using the end of the newly-instated "due diligence" period that buyers now have in order to check out the property instead of the date they wanted the survey in their office.
On my order form there is a space for required delivery date. NOT the end of the due diligence period. She was getting calls wondering why the surveyor is waiting until the end of this period, when the client wants to see it NOW.
We got that sorted and I was also able to bring up the new idea of an automated distribution list so she doesn't even have to re-send the scanned surveys I send over by email.
He remarked that they hated to pass a copy of my survey (from the scan) instead of the original, because while they loved my originals because they are printed on a high quality 24 pound paper, the copies they used were on the cheap stuff from their printer. I will begin hand delivery of originals (they are close by).
He said that I should begin to see orders next week.
We set a meeting with him and his paralegal next week so that we are eye-to-eye with the way she needs my work to come in.
We both left the summit with a new start and clear air between us.
What a relief!!!!!!!!!!
Lessons were learned:
Face this stuff head on. It was gut wrenching, but it came down to a fairly simple fix.
The person ordering your work may not take the time to educate you as to how they want the work. Rather than start an uncomfortable dialogue, they may call the next guy in the yellow pages.
Engage with your the clients so you understand their process.
Always pick up the phone if there is even the perception of a problem.
Make sure you are dead-solid with the people who are actually ordering the work.
Etc.
I want thank all of you who took a moment to post. It gave me confidence.
Now, as long the the end of days isn't tomorrow, I think I'm good with these guys.
I am now on the deck with a well deserved fine cigar and vodka tonic.
What a week.
Way to go, JB.
You deserve this good turnabout because you made it happen. Congratulations.
JB.
Way to go!! I usually like to hit stuff head on, but I can see where there is a huge gray area sometimes. I wish I had some atty's that were feeding me like your situation...
Good idea taking the "high road" and presenting your benefits, rather than someones shortcomings.
I can only wish you well!!
BTW: Since you are speaking of vodka and tonic... you should try my friends brew... www.dirtykarmavodka.com I'll ship you some if you want it. All organic.
Anyway... BE WELL!!! GREAT JOB!!
Nicely done - Bravo
Well so far JB I am 13 hours into the 21st.......No signs of
wrath!
Great to read there was a simple explanation.
guess next week we will be reading a newbie Beer Leg poster.
"I waz getin diz ferm of scumbag loryas works till this scum bag sirveya got em pizzed telin them he waz super mario sirveya .....what do I do?"
RADU
That's cool it worked out for you JB!!
Freakin legalize crap!! "due deligence period"/"delivery date" WTF?
What the hell is a "due deligence period" anyhow?
Delivery date tells me that's when you'll hand me over the signed and sealed plats and stuff - period, and simple.
I am very happy for you JB, so glad that it all worked out.
JB,
Good for you - That's wonderful news.
A rational head always seem to prevail.

I didn't comment on your first post JB because some posts just require a bit of thought and digestion. I guess you posted that and after reading the responses then you figured out how you wanted to proceed. I'm glad that it was successful and wished that others would sometimes take the time to stop, sit back and evaluate something before they reacted. It paid off for you, so kudo's.
I respect your posts so that was not unexpected at all.
