Hello,

I am looking for a recommendation for a simple ink-jet color printer for printing mainly black onto card stock and everyday office color printing. I want a straight paper path and just a basic unit that will take thick stock. I don't need any bells or whistles as I already have a plotter and a M-F laser. Only need to take legal-size, as well.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

I have had an HP Photosmart All-in-One for about 2 years now and love it. Good quality prints, prints CD/DVD labels, letter and legal size paper. It wasn't very expensive either.

I just got a new HP Photosmart 5514e printer that I think will fit your needs. They are less then $100 at Walmart, Office Depot and direct from HP. They print, copy and scan. It will take the 8.5x14 legal paper with no problem and will do 2 sided printing to save paper. It also has a wireless setup capability that works very well. I have mine wired via a USB cable to my computer and all the laptops can access the printer via my router at the same time. Pretty slick copier.

I used HP printers for several years. Kyocera black and white
printers will cut your ink cost by 1/3. The 4020D cost a $1000.
You will probably have to go to Madison, WI for service. Excellent
features such as paper handling, handles up to 90 pound index,
great for brochures, takes no-clasp envelopes, dot-matrix labels,
and has great fonts. Duplexing and fairly lightweight are valuable.
Every HP printer for the last ten years seems to have duplicated
an Kyocera printer. I tell my vendor it is more HP oompatible
than a new HP. It can access HP languages all the way back to
an HP Laserjet II. Forty pages plus per minute. Parallel, network,
and USB ports are standard.

Can't reccommend a color printer -- I got an HP8500 and pay
megabucks for the cartridges.

Black and white printers will cover 95% of the engineering/surveying printing
load.
